Who can swap a 4.8 ls in there for under $300?
In reply to RossD :
i heard it's so easy, LS's actually swap themselves.
Actually, I've been trying to make room for an '01 996. I've been emailing since Friday though without a reply, so I don't think it's gonna happen.
Another. Not Challenge priced, but I bet I have the parts to fix it quick. Garland, Tx:

My god. That's cheap enough that either ignoring the IMS or rebuilding the m96 is reasonable.
What a time to be alive.

Wow, I actually really like the gaudiness of that one.

Yes, white_fly sent me a listing of the same car in Florida. It's a fake.
In reply to AAZCD (Forum Supporter) :
Yep, thought as much
Just another note:
I got an email back from the 'seller' of the 996. It said that he was listing the car for his uncle and gave me his uncle's email address to contact him directly. Up to there the emails were through the Craigslist email relay. I replied to the "uncle" from a 'burner' email account that I have just out of curiosity to see where it might lead. What is the scam? I expect that it is just a way of gathering confirmed email addresses to bundle and sell for phishing and spam. It also may turn out that the uncle is in the military and will ship it to me after I pay with a wire transfer.
I have bought and sold stuff at prices that were "too good to be true", but this is not one of them. Here's a few ads for the car I found. I expect it has been all across the country.
I got a reply to my email already! Uncle Mark is going to ship it to me through eBay at his expense. All for just $1,600! Best deal EVAR!!!
Hello Jimmy, I'm Mark, thank you for your interest in the car, 2 months ago I had a car accident and I want to see her urgently I don't want to see her in the garage to remember the same terrible moments, I stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks with a back problem due to the accident, I'm selling it for $ 1600.00 to get my expenses out of the hospital, some details about the car : The car is hit on the right side needs repair, the engine works, the car is from the 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 2, has at present 109000 mileage, the engine is 3.4L gas H6, has manual transmission, needs left clip, fender, and door some garage work. I'm located in Indianapolis, IN. I have signed a contract with eBay to take care of the selling on my behalf. The Car is already at the shipping company here in Indianapolis ready for the shipping.
The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 5-7 days, depending on the exact location. You will have 5 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don't like about it you can send it back at my expense. If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, I can ask eBay to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it. eBay will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the confirmation that you need to complete this deal. If you would like to receive the email from eBay with all the transaction information please reply with your full name, shipping address and phone # and they will contact you right away.
Thank you Mark Adkins.
I should leave it there. Not reply. There may be risk...
I'm going to tell uncle Mark that I have a friend near Indianapolis that is ready to come over and inspect the car at his soonest convenience.
...and I have 18 pictures of the car now if anyone is interested in seeing more of it. They all passed the virus scan.
$1600 at a hospital in the USA? Yeah, if his only expense is parking!

Louisville? I hit that a month ago and then it disappeared. Figured it was scammy
Me:
Hi Mr Adkins,
I am very excited about the deal and I will certainly want to buy it. You may be familiar with the Porsche Club? I have a friend in the club that is located near Indianapolis and he is available this weekend to view that car for me to see if it is repairable or if I will be better off using it for parts. Is there a time this weekend that you or your representative can show him the car?
A few questions about the car for my own planning purposes: Do you know if the IMS was ever addressed in the engine? I hear that the 2001 models may have the dual row bearing, but it it still best to replace them. Did you have an insurance estimate done on the car? The report would be very useful to me. Are all four wheels still in decent condition? I see that they are Victor Equipment 'Lemans' wheels which are one of my favorite styles.
Thank you, Jimmy R.
The Scam:
I'm sorry but it is already at the shipping company ready for the delivery. I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them.
Anyway, you'll have 5 days to test it and check it out. I have already made all the arrangements and everything.
This is my position regarding this sale. I'm sorry, but this is the best I can do. Let me know if you want to move forward.
Thanks!
If I take it further, it will ask for a Google Payment and some personal information. I expect that the emails are not even being handled by a human, but are AI responses, It seems like a pretty common script at this point. A person might be fun to chat with, but I don't see the fun in wasting an AI's time, so that's the end.
It was easy to type a couple quick emails. Why not? I don't think that my responses matter unless the have a key-word to trigger a different response. Now I have a .PDF invoice from"eBay" (invoice@e-support-payments.com) that I don't plan to open on any of my regularly used devices - maybe later on an old 'wiped' phone just to see.
Here's the rest of the correspondence:
The invoice email from "eBay":
In reply to AAZCD (Forum Supporter) :
Forward the email to eBay. They really really really do not like fraudsters that impersonate them. They may be interested in pursuing legal action against them, if any is possible.
So... if anyone else reaches this point in a scam that claims to be through eBay, forward the email and info to: "Spoof@ebay.com".
Here's part of eBay's initial reply,
"... let me assure you, eBay is very vigilant about fraudulent activities on eBay and we do not tolerate such activities on eBay.
I have reviewed your account and got to know that this member is contacting you off eBay platform as you have also mentioned so, this seems to be spoof. Hence, I would request you, do not make any transaction and immediately forward this e-mails to us at spoof@ebay.com so that, we can investigate further and take strict action."
