It's not worth the effort to try to convert a circle track chassis to road course style use, is it?

I say it depends. If it's a perimeter chassis, rather than an offset, that makes it a ton easier. Essentially, a Trans Am TA2 car is a perimeter late model.

However, keep in mind just about everything is designed to go left, including the suspension, weight distribution, body, and even the engine.

From experience no it is not. 
 

Be sure what chassis it is before deciding no though. We had a super oval chassis that wasn't offset and converted fairly easily to vintage road course stock car duty.

ARCA, Busch & NASCAR  spec  chassis can be set up to go both left and right

Engine does not care if you turn left or right, other than the oil pan and oil tank baffling.

Core chassis is built straight, set up depends on A Arm Length, Read End tube length
