I was having a conversation with someone at church this morning about his 08 Civic and realized I didn't know the engine code like Hondas of the past. What is the engine code for the 1.8 liter engine in the plain jane Civics of that year?

R18.... something or other.  Weird engine that works like gravity, never leaks, and eats accessory belts every 50k or so.

My mom has an '07 with 230k miles she bought new and still has the factory accessory belt. I know because I bought a replacement a year ago when I adjusted the valves for the first time and it still sitting on my work bench laugh

2006 - 2011 model year civics use the R18A1 engine.

It can leak coolant if the engine block cracks, a known issue:
