I found a guy parting a GTO with a M80 LSD, axles, and driveshaft for probably $200 with me pulling it out. This would be hacked into a miata subframe (sorry for multiple threads). Anyone know how these diffs hold up? I know some guys swap them for 8.8s but I would be surprised if I can get axles, carrier, and driveshaft for $200 at a yard for the Ford options.
IIRC I think the diff is considered a weak point on the new GTOs. Big grain of salt though, as what is considered a weak point on a 4000lb GTO putting 400+ lb-ft down through slicks at the drag strip could very well be perfectly adequate in a Miata that weighs half that.
That is kind of what I was thinking but I don't want to spend 10% of my budget on something that is a mediocre traction device.
Based on what the diff came from (heavy LS powered car), unless this Miata is running a 400+hp V8 and wrinkle wall slicks, I doubt it'd be a weak point.
I have a BMW 'big' diff out of a 750il. 3:15 ratio, open diff.
I'd give it to you for free. Doesn't come with driveshafts or axles, but should be just as strong (if not stronger) than the GTO unit.
Edit: reading comprehension. I need something limited slip. I already have an open ls400 diff. Thanks though
Had a '04 GTO. Never had an issue with the diff, auto-xed it on some pretty sticky tires, always worked like it should. I was running completely stock. You could do a lot worse.

That is the kind of endorsement I needed. Thanks!
