THAT doesn't sound like a difficult decision!

2 month thrash , you will never regret it. last time I went I got my car running the night before , I finished horribly and had an awesome time. The current car has taken nearly 2 years to build. LOL

This is our car right now.
All of us are full-time students, and most of us (myself included) have jobs. If we can dig our heels in and make a running race car out of this mess, so can you. Come on, you can make it. I'll buy you a beer in Gainesville.

3 here!
We would be doing it with two, but we blowed one up. :(
To top it all off, we're not allowed in our shop until after 5PM right now.

Excellent news! I had every confidence that you would figure it out. The rest of the issues... well I am not so sure... better hurry up...

With the upcoming birth of my second child I'm probably not gonna make it this year but just to prove I haven't been completely slacking, here's a picture of the car at a local autocross. Of course it's got a long way to go before it's a corner carving beast but hey, at least it runs. Check out that body roll!

Well, I won't have the fastest Firebird at the challenge if you make it this year...

Hey Andy how'd you do?
Oh an to keep this OT...
I flushed the cooling system and gave the Challenge vehicle a bath yesterday. The "coolant" was rusty brown, probably not a good thing, especially considering the radiator and hoses were cleaned prior to reinstalling and the system was filled with tap water prior to firing it up on MS.
Let's hope this isn't an ongoing problem. There was a lot of evidence in the engine bay of a previous cooling system malfunction...I don't feel like doing a head gasket at the Challenge!

Check the radiator cap for a bad seal. If it lets air in it'll turn your coolant bad real quick.

The only upside to that is always extra pairs of hands/tools available.
My bought not built car is going to get its fluids changed and driven more to test if 'dying' motor really is or if it is fine. Then if fine... time to see if vacation days are ok to use.
I just printed my registration form... I'll be there with (of course) a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX. However, it won't be the same GTX I brought to '06, '07 or '08. I bought a rolling chassis for $250, and a rebuilt engine/tranny for $700+ shipping.
Wish me luck on doing my first ever engine swap. :D If that's successful, we'll see how ambitious I am as to what else gets done to the car.
If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area in CA and want to lend a hand, ping me. I've got a bunch of guys off the GTX list who'll be helping me out, hopefully, but the more the merrier. I live in San Jose, but currently renting warehouse space in Oakland.
I plan on driving from San Jose. Here's hoping the car survives. I'll be taking I-5 down to I-10 across to Florida. Drop me a line if you're interested in making a $2010 convoy. :D

Yeah it was in there for about 5 minutes...and it isn't coolant, just water :)
Sent in the entry form, and got the hotel reservation today. This is starting to feel very real.
The hotel people were really nice. I just mentioned GRM and they looked me up from last year. They saw that I was not involved with any parking lot fires or Skate boarding accidents, and I was all set. :)

And its likely that no matter how good a wrench you are, there will be someone there who can do a particular job better and has done it under worse conditions than you

You all have shamed me into actually breaking a sweat and so I can happily report that I am now pretty much ready to race. It may be relatively slow and only an average handling car, but it is enough for me to go out and have fun with.
Thanks to another forum regular I got a sweet deal on the replacement glass that I needed. I just finished freshening up the brakes a little since I only have $10 left in my budget and that does not count.
