We dudes & chicks will support the local bars while one sucker gets left to sit with the car and go over it with the judges.
Just a thought, if you're downtown with the cars why not get random people to vote on them. Put all the cars on a ballot sheet, pass them out and tally them up at the end of the night, or if it's too late, the next day.

Because I'd be handing dollar bills to bums to vote for my car multiple times?

As long as you include it in your budget I think this should be encouraged

If our $0.00 plan comes to fruition, we should totally bring it back the following year with the full $2015 budget used up.

... In the form of 2015 $1 bills glued to the car and then sealed in with a clear laquer.

We'd probably still lose concours. I'm figuring I'm going to be thrown out altogether with what's going on the black car.....

Now i wish i hadn't let that plan out in the open. I figure it'd be a funny way to completely stymie the Lemons judges as well.

Hopefully nobody beats me to the punch.

Truthfully, and I say this with much forethought-

We're probably the only two people on EARTH stupid enough to glue two grand in cash to a car, thereby rendering said two grand useless- for the sole purpose of confounding multiple judges through various crapcan racing serieses, both GRM sponsored and otherwise.

I think you can still get full sheets of money from the mint in DC if you ask. That might be easier to use for your "wrap and rain" scheme.

Can we do pennies instead, for multiple layers? Call it the mx6 armored edition, offer the judges a gun to shoot at it with as bribery....

I think the challenge needs more racing. Its a lot of work To build a good car then what do you do with it. its not legal pretty much anywhere. I think we should do some sort of endurance race kinda like a lemons race but not so lame. That would get me to drive across the country again. It would be a lot harder to make a 10 second car. And yes still drag race and some sort of concuors judging but needs to be voted by a broader range cause personally I love the racecar look as long as its done clean.

I may come down this year. Previous years, the Challenge and Petite were either the same weekend or close. Since I've sworn off Petit (thanks to poor signage and law enforcement picking and choosing which law to enforce on which day), I have room to hang out . . . AussieSMG offered a non-official membership to his team If something doesn't keep me away, I'll be down this year.

Offer is still on mate, we have beer

I'm not sure there is a rules problem, except for possibly either publishing some concours guidelines or possibly turning it into a "competitor's choice" award whereby every competitor votes for their favorite based on whatever their own personal criteria might be. Of course, a competitor can't vote for their own car.

Rather, I think the problem lies with marketing. It's one thing to advertise to the subscribers but when was the last time anything was written about the Challenge in other media forms? Where's the Challenge Facebook page, etc? Why is it not on Velocity, either live or a highlights package?

A couple of years ago, I proposed a Collegiate Division so colleges could compete head-to-head with a clear winner. Their standings also count in the overall competition as well. As structured as it might be, the Challenge is a lot less rigid than FSAE and might attract college groups who just want to build cars and compete without all the other stuff surrounding FSAE.

If a half-dozen colleges show up, there'll be triple that the next year. Texas vs A&M on the dragstrip and around the cones. They hate each other. Get 'em young and keep 'em interested.

Also, what about throwing down the gauntlet and cajoling other mags like Hot Rod to build a car for 2013 that runs mid-tens, then autocrossing it? I remember they contemplated competing one year then decided not to. Insult their man /womanhood if necessary until they show up. Do the same with other mags. Start a war. It doesn't matter whether they eat crow or GRM does. There'll be a lot of chatter and articles and smack. It'll be fun and interesting for all involved.

There has to be more thought put into spreading the marketing reach for the event. In the past couple of years, I haven't heard one word outside the GRM community about the Challenge. How about a nicely edited official Challenge video on YouTube? The cars, the builds, interviews with competitors talking about how they used a washing machine water pump for methanol injection, etc.

In reply to Jerry From LA:

I like your ideas. I've been talking with a local high school car club (my wife works at this high school) about a possible project. This high school has less than 700 students. They have over 20 students signed up for a car club and another 20 interested. But they do not have anyone employed at the school that wants to take on the "leader" role. The car desire I believe is still high out their among youth. The channels for them to get into the hobby are less known, less available, less taught, and believed to be less affordable. I think the college competition could also include high schools. I don't believe you may need more "classes", but possibly a separate "award" for a certain segment. The "award" doesn't have to mean "cash money" - but just the trophy and magazine acknowledgement is big - it has to be about having fun with the hobby or sport. The adult leaders out there that can volunteer to lead these youth groups are what is key. Craigslist has made it easier to find and build cheap projects more than ever. If some other advertisers want to get in by offering some gift certificates or shirts whatever.

I have wanted to approach our local adult education center with a packet to show the event off but no such packet exists.

This packet would just be to show the event is legitimate and something they should consider.

In addition UNOH is just up the road and has a HUGE motorsport education center that has developed over the past 5 years.

They must have 12 semis to transport vehicles alone
