i've seen a lot of G8's- i'm pretty sure they sold every one they imported, just like the GTO that "nobody" bought.

FWIW, it didn't light the world on fire:

from Wikipedia: By December 2008, the rear-drive G8 had not become the expected sales replacement for the previous front-drive models, with 11,000 unsold G8s in the inventory and just 13,000 sold. During the 2009 global economic downturn, market prices had dropped by $3000–5000 below GM's sticker price for the car. By July 2009, there were only 5,000 unsold G8s in inventory, with almost 30,700 sold.

...and the GXP (which was essentially what the SS is) sold a whopping 1829 units.

So yeah, I'm not expecting the SS to make much of a splash.

The gxp only sold 1829 because that's all they made. They sold quick.

My only beef with it.. it's a GM product. With all their massive Recalls right now, I would want to make sure it is not bugged up like the rest. I am hoping the black eye they got with the ignition switches and the memos that got leaked about how the engineering teams could not talk about them will make GM wake up and do some real quality control.

Right about now.. they are making Chrysler products look like the best screwed together cars ever

To be fair, the whole economy was in the process of falling apart at that time and people weren't really lining up to buy a lot of $30k+ rwd cars..

They fire saled the first year GTO. The 2004s could be had for $19k new with the incentives they put on it. I regret not buying the one they offered to me at that price. They were sitting for a long time.

I think it's cool that GM is selling the SS at all, and cooler still that they are offering a stick shift, but its not to my personal tastes (mainly because GM) , and I doubt that they will sell many, I hope they plan accordingly.

I had a Buick Regal GS with a six speed for a while and I realized it wasn't doing anything for the car. Now my Focus ST, that manual is necessary.

My wife had never owned (or wanted) a car with an auto until she got in an accident and her Mazda6 Wagon (V6 M5 trans) was totalled and we got her a G8 GT (GXP was too expensive and MPG atrocious).

400 torques in front of the auto makes the heresy go down much better... .
