My son (30 year old) and I autocrossed our Mustang today.
After is his first run he declared "This thing is fun as Sh#%%t!"
He was skeptical when I bought the car but appears to now be a convert. He's looking forward to our next event.
We actually went better than I thought we would; I managed 3rd out in a field of 6.
Currently the diff is an unlimited slip, the front springs have the car to low and the brakes are well 80s brakes. We were 2.5 seconds off the front so the fixes should get us there.
Very cool and, yeah, there was something magical about that chassis. Maybe it’s nostalgia talking but I don’t care. I saw a teal Cobra this weekend, by the way. It looked good out there.
Don't let the 2.3 badge fool you, this thing has all the horsepowers and makes cool turbo noises. Came out to our autocross yesterday.
It's fun because it a largely predictable flexible noodle. No intrusive nannies to worry about ruining your fun. It's not loaded with nvh dampers. Thats why it's fun.

It's amazing to me that Ford made over 2.5 million of these and you rarely see them in the wild anymore. But when you do they really draw the eye.

It is nostalgia talking; but it doesn't make them any less fun.
We were crushed by D Street cars but it didn't matter.
I had the car 4 wheel drifting left and right through the slaloms.
I found the car really predictable. It's basically a V8 Datsun 1200.

They rusted badly in the areas where things rusted, and in the areas that didn't, the floors had cracking issues.
A ton of them got wadded up by young men, too.

In reply to CyberEric :
I waited this long to get one because so many of those guys couldn't drive and I didn't want to be associated with the 80s 5.0 crowd.............I'm way to counter culture.
The funny part is a friend of ours is an engineer for IMSA prototype team..........he was teasing my son and I about us paired together in a Mustang........we are both ADD poster kids.
Naturally my son spun the car first time out, as well as driving sideways everywhere.
In reply to CyberEric :
I worked on a few supercharged 5.0 Mustangs. (They always need worked on ) A friend's neighbor had a beautiful supercharged Mustang GT.
The one thing they ALL had in common was that when they were completed, got bored with, and sold, the new owner totaled the car within two weeks. It was like clockwork.

My son was surprised how far out I got the car on my runs yet managed to pull it back..........the joys of having raced a leaf spring car for the last 34 years.

This would be my son backing out the slalom at 45 mph

The design has aged well–like you said, one will still turn my head.

I especially like the styling of the LX. I think it looks much better than the GT.

Leaving Cars and Coffee events took out most.
I've never had a car snap oversteer under light throttle like my 5.0 GT on Gatorbacks in the rain. Needless to say, I picked up new tires a few days later and it was much more predictable.

SN95 wasn't much better from my experience. Even the V6 (5spd, at least) would dance all over in the rain without a ton of warning.

I knew a guy who bought a wrecked one for parts.
Upon inspection, the paint wasn't even worn off the blower pulley.
Guy must have installed it and ground-looped it into a lamp post within a week.
I think a lot of the crashed Foxbody cars has more to do with the type of driver that gravitated towards them back in the day that the rear suspension issues.
