Folks:

The aftermarket CD player in my ’08 Corolla is dead. However.....the FREE Sirius radio connection is working fine, and I use that about 95% of the time.

How is the Sirius free? I have no idea, but I don’t want to lose it.

My question: If I replace the audio player with a new aftermarket unit, will I have to go to Sirius to initialize the new unit? Are there audio players that can connect to Sirius automatically? (And not lose the FREE!)

Thx

Rog

In the past, Sirius/XM did lifetime subscriptions but it was only for the lifetime of that specific radio.  My guess is you bought this car used and the subscription is that of the previous owner.  I would say with nearly 100% certainty that if you stop using that specific radio you will also loose the "free."

I wonder if the satellite radio receiver is a separate board that you could swap to a new radio.

In reply to boulder_dweeb :

Does the "broken unit" has a 3.5mm jack for aux?  If so, I'll bet Goodwill has a $5 Diskman that would then allow for CDs to be played through the car radio.

Sirius is registered to the radio ID, so like others have said, somebody at some time is/or did pay for it.  Sirius isn't free, so a replacement radio will nessestitate a registration and that will lose the "free" aspect...

Thanks guys!

Looks like the CD player thru tie AUX port is the easy way.
