And too much oil degrades performance.
You can say that again! I dropped it off before work this morning and the young guy says he'd take care of it. I drove by at lunch and they had moved it which means it was likely done but I didn't go pick it up until after work. When I got in and fired it up it took forever for the air to cool down and then when it did was just cool. Not COLD like before. I thought if I drove it around for awhile it would get better. Nope. Took it back just before they closed and told them it didn't work. The old guy hooked up his gauges, revved up the engine and put his thermometer inside. He agreed it wasn't working. He said it had too much oil. He bled off some of the oil....he told me that when it quits squirting out with force it's just right. He added back in some refrigerent and presto....ICE!
Young guy said he didn't add any oil. I guess the compressor had too much to begin with?
The compressor was new, right? No, it wouldn't have had too much, unless it was in error, but the system oil added to the compressor oil may have been too much. Glad to hear it's working.
it was new. I wondered about that too but the old guy seemed to know what he was talking about. the force at which it was gushing out made him say it was way too much. I'm not sure the young guy was on the level about not adding oil. I tend to believe the old guy. Those guys have been running that AC / radiator shop for like 1000 years.
Hope the compressor doesn't die due to lack of oil
Where was it gushing from? Gushing isn't usually a word I would use to describe oil coming out of an AC system, so I'm thinking it was a huge amount.
He opened the system somewhere while it was running and I tink it ended up coming out of the tube connected to the middle of his gauge cluster. He had the high connected to the high side, the low to the low, a tube laying on the ground connected to the middle (I think). He would step on the tube end and when he took his foot off it would burp out a big glop of green oil. he did that like 4 or 5 times until it quit puking out with force.
That sounds like a lot of oil all right.
