I had a chat with someone today who mentioned that the V6 manual Accord coupe is quicker, stock for stock, around a track than a 370Z with proper drivers. He says it's a rediculously underrated track car.
What? That can't possibly be right.

Agreed.
370z weighs less, has a bunch more power, wider wheels/tires, lower CG, etc.
Remember, the 370Z is not likely to make it through the first heavy braking zone on stock brakes...

Holy Carp!! That would be terrifying!
Guess it's good I can't afford such exotic machinery.

Its a lot more dangerous to drive to work in the morning and a much likelier reason to have a car damaged than being on track in a non-competitive environment was my point.
I don't see significant accidents during 40% of my morning commutes. I might see one per month. And I drive almost 50 miles to work with who knows how many other drivers... hundreds...
I saw an accord 6spd/v6 coupe at church yesterday and it looked awesome/sounded cool. Go for it!

The Honda factory HPD team has been running Acura TLs with a lot of success for years in NASA Honda Challenge and in endurance events. They are FAST. I'm not sure if there are any build threads on the cars (there have been a few now) but I think they use mostly off the shelf parts. They did more than one lap.
Also...
Key takeaway: If you intend to track a Z, don’t use the base pads, upgrade the brake fluid, and be sure to install brake-cooling ducts.
Not sure who uses base anything if you track a car. I can't imagine a Honda Accord's stock brakes will survive a few hot laps on a track braking hard from 100+mph either.
