Minor threadjack:
I've been wondering if anyone has ever added one to a Miata. I've never seen one with an Accusump.
Well to size one you need to know some info.
Hows the OEM pan work now? Do you cavatate the pump on turns ?
Whats your oil flow rate needed for your motor?
Is it turboed?
Are you planing on using it as a pre lubers and or post luber?
Real can't go wrong with a large one except for weight, and size packaging oh and the cost of a few more quarts of oil.
Yes they're pretty large. For the track, use the manual ball-valve if possible, it's cheap and doesn't fail on-track.
Accusump sent mixed messages regarding their electric valves, saying they're great in one sentence, then say they're no good for racing, yet their "racing" version appears to use the same physical valve body they badmouthed for racing... or at least that's how it was 5yrs ago when I used one.
The car hasn't been on the track yet so I don't know if my oil pump cavitates on turns. I don't ever want to know. The type R is close to stock so I only need it for insurance in sweepers, not pre-oiling.
FWIW - guys over at honda-tekh who race their ITRs add oil pan baffles but no accusump. Maybe the accusump and baffles are belts and suspenders.
As far as accusumps go the recommendation is for the one with the balls and yes, size matters. Can I say that here?
I can't say I've had any problems with my Accusump's electric valve, it's been installed for almost 2 years now and 12 track days. It's mostly used to pre-lube the motor before starting but it's nice to know it's there should anything go south in the motor. I'm also running a Canton road racing oil pan with baffles and trap doors, with the 3 qt. Accusump and the Canton pan my oil capacity is about 11 qts.; I would think a 2 qt. Accusump would be a adequate size for your Integra type r, I'd bet that Accusump has a recommendation for your motor on their Web site, have you checked there?
