I'm not a big VW fan by any means, but I'm totally on board with this thing!!

I wonder how strong the structure is with so much of the unibody removed.

If you look at his website you'll see that the inner bed panels have steel reinforcement.

It is a very cool idea and I've been following his progress on this for some time. I love the idea and I gave some thought to making my aging 02 Jetta Wagon with a VR6 a donor car for this, but between the price of the kit and a legitimate paint job afterward I just couldn't justify it. But this is a hell of a deal for someone with the the skills to do the body work and paint on their own.

I ended up selling the jetta because it was starting to go to hell due to mileage and age and I bought a new Mazda6 instead. I've got all the project car I need in the form of the 84 GTI in my avatar picture anyway.

They were not available in the US market, but they were made from the factory in that configuration. I did a bit more research and an AWD conversion pretty requires a bunch of work, but it is "bolt on". Pricing would probably be prohibitive.

As for starting with an Audi, they don't make a kit for that, yet.

I'd rather have a Golf. It's probably easier to push.

I absolutely HATE MKIV Jettas, and I like this trucklet conversion, so that says something. Make mine a TDI.

I like it, I doubt I will build one myself, but I really like it. If I had a VR6 Jetta laying around I might be tempted.
