I've kinda decided that the BRZ may want some "real" gauges, given all the money I'm dumping into it. Normally I'd go for a set of Defi gauges but it's not that sort of build.
I noticed that Prosport have a few gauges in the preferred size (60mm) that have both peak hold and a warning function, namely the premium evo gauges. Does anybody happen to have any experience with them?
Bump for the midday crowd - comments on the Prosport gauges or recommendations for good quality 60mm gauges in a similar price range ($100-$150) that don't also need an external controller would be appreciated. Otherwise I guess I'll get to play guinea pig here.
I can't speak to Prosport...but I am quite happy with my Marshall Blueline SCX gauges...peak recall, full sweep, stepper motor, LED backlighting, blah blah blah:

I think the entire gauge set cost me $300-ish years ago. I am not aware of any quality gauges for less than $250 for a full(6 gauge) set. I used Autometer Cobalt to match the gauges Marshall didn't offer(namely vac/boost and analog clock)
Just to clarify - the price range I mentioned was per gauge, not for the full set. I'm looking for half decent gauges, not random number generators .

Generally speaking, most modern gauges are pretty accurate to within a couple degrees, even if they don't have fancy features(I am not a big fan of AutoMeter as an exmple, but thats more because they are behind the curve in features than a lack of accuracy). Its not like we are talking OEM idiot lights. Speaking for myself, I can't stand digital gauges for anything they aren't actually needed for(IE wideband AFR needs to be digital, but not much else) since they just making actually reading the gauge more difficult and time consuming. To be honest, you shouldn't be trying to get real tuning data from gauges anyway...you should use a datalog from the ECU for that...gauge systems that try to datalog will always do a worse job than an ECU that can keep track of a lot more parameters such as fuel trim, spark advance, airflow, etc etc.

Totally agree re the datalogging. The point of the gauges is more to be able to spot issues before the next engine lets go, by something like having the gauge flash or trigger a warning light rather than have the OEM gauges go "look, Christmas tree says your engine just expired".
Last I checked into them they were hit or miss. I decided to get some Stack with stepper motors, which are now owned by Autometer. They are more expensive at around $220, but I never had any problems.
^same here, I run Autometer Ultra series gauges which are just Stack gauges with a different logo and a few bucks cheaper.
Stepper motor function (quiet too, even after probably 10 years now) with programmable 2 stage warnings. They don't come in 60mm though. And they're about $220 for your typical oil pressure gauge.
The Autometers look good, but I really do need 60mm gauges. The eyesight isn't what it never used to be, and the only decent mounting point for extra gauges is in front of the passenger.
I installed the ProSport Evo series digital gauges in my Beat and found them to be very accurate when comparing to my calibrated analogs baselines. I would definitely recommend, especially for the price.
