I've got a line (via Pelican) on a hot rodded early 911 in Austin. While it's a little early in my plans to buy another 911, this one ticks all the boxes as a basis for the sort of 911 hot rod I'd like to build.
Before I'd jump on a plane to check it out though I was wondering if one of the brethren would be able to give it a once over - mainly to check if it's running right and if there is anything that I should be aware of, even given the tons of pictures the current owner put on the ad. If I end up viewing the car and still like it, I'll probably get it PPI'd anyway by a reputable Porsche shop in the area (anybody got a recommendation?).
I really should stay off forums that have a large selection of classified ads .
I'm not near Austin at the moment, but I've seen quite a few 911s come through the local race track (Texas World) wearing SoulSpeed Performance decals, I'd imagine they'd know their way around a modded Porsche. From the reviews I've found online, It'd seem most people are happy with them.

Soul Speed is a suspension/setup shop. I don't know how much engine/transmission work they do.
For an Austin PPI I would recommend Moorespeed. Not cheap, but very good. I would volunteer, but with the holidays I don't know when I could find time.
I don't know how busy the seller is over the holidays either, so I expect that's a general problem at the moment. I don't think the seller is getting his door knocked down by eager buyers at the moment either, which could work to my advantage.
Thanks for the recommendation re Moorespeed, I just checked the ad and the seller has had the carbs rebuilt by them. Probably worth just giving them a call and see if they remember the car.
BTW, this is the toy in question:
Drool-iscious! Is that a 1973 (black horn grills)? Which motor? I love brushed Fuchs!

I am near austin and know NOTHING about 911-specific issues.
In reply to DWNSHFT:
Modded '70, fitted with a ducktail and a 3l SC motor running a set of Webers. It's generally pretty stripped (RS door cards, no rear seat, front buckets etc). Built for speed, not necessarily comfort.
Can't comment on the car, but the seller seems to take nice pictures!

Well, the main issues I'd be looking for are bodywork related and I can give you a run down what to look for. The engine might need a refresh sooner or later but compared to the cost of fixing the bodywork that's peanuts. A rather large bag of peanuts admittedly but fixing the bodywork on an early 911 usually buys a peanut farm...
The whole exercise is really to find out if it's worth spending the weekend and the 800-900 to fly out to Austin and check it out myself, as I wouldn't buy a car like this just on the strength of the photos.

I would hope so, given that he appears to be a pro photographer. Let's just say the photos in the ad are a notch above the usual CL photos .

Hit me up, I may be just the guy
Ask if the motor was upgraded to Carrera chain tensioners. Also, I assume the brakes are upgraded; what are they? Since 911 parts are so mix-and-match, and this one has been modded, find out just what is what. Check on brakes, torsion bars, transmission, clutch, oil cooler, engine fan, heat exchangers. Make sure it isn't the rubber-centered clutch that came stock on the SCs. Watch for synchro wear in 2nd and 3rd. And have lots of fun in it!

Is that being sold by a guy named Novak? If so he's a friend of mine(who I haven't talked to in awhile), and it's a great car
