Been tossing around the idea of picking up a cheap car to take over and have some fun with and maybe get our 18 year old involved.  Just seeing if anyone has done it there, I'm about 20 min away from the track so would be fairly close too.

Yes, there's probably about a half dozen of us or so who are on here and do SCCA Rallycross with the DC region.  If you've got questions, we probably have answers.

Is it beginner friendly or fairly competitive?

Both, plenty of folks to talk to and get advice.  MR is quite competitive, but still friendly.  If you drive RWD, it's a great region to race. :) But regardless of what you drive, you'll have fun and learn quite a bit about rallyx.

If you're in that quad state area, Harrisburg also hosts a fun low key rallyx program.  Our course is not even half as good as DC, but it's a fun time nonetheless.

Is it just the one day May 5th at Summit point or is that just the first one?

Just about the most fun you can have and a great group of people to do it with.

This is the 2nd event of the year. You can check out the full schedule (click on the "events" tab) here: https://www.wdcr-scca.org/rallycross

I highly recommend participating. It's well run, very welcoming, and competitive. RWD for the most sideways fun, but honestly almost anything out there can be a good time.
