Random daydreaming. There are lots of panther platforms out there without engines. I started to wonder what could fit in one, and of course me being me all thoughts turn to the I6.
Seen a lot of speculation on the interwebs about if the 300 will fit in one. Length should be doable, if a pain, but they're also a tall beastie so I'm not sure what it would look like to get the engine underneath the hood. A power bulge would definitely cover it if it had to be a little tall.

I can't give exact dimensions but a Ford 4.6 2V is a mighty large beast. Cleetus and gang put a 632ci Chevy based on a 10.2" deck block in one and it fit with miles to spare. And guys bolt the 5.4L Triton V8 and 5.8L Trinity V8 and the 6.8 V10 in them too

Hrm.
So, the below is the carb'd version. An LS headed EFI version would be about this size.
The fan is definitely the issue here.
I've got a 390 FE that might find its way into one, one day. Just to be obnoxious. Hopefully it finds something more appropriate first!
i woulda thought too tall; knew the mod. was a wide beast - looks like the height will work out.
Fan is easy... electric pusher in front of radiator.
Height will probably be your largest issue. The 300 is a tall engine. They barely fit in vans that 4.6s rattle around in, and the 4.6 alternator is rather close to the hood. And about a foot further back than the front of a 300.
Not not-doable, but you might have some fun oil pan times ahead of you.
Length.... you can climb in between the engine and radiator and walk around with the 4.6, worst case there is plenty room to move the radiator forward. On reflection, your biggest length related issue may be the wiper linkage, which is only technically a height issue because the back of the head is the contact point, not the top.

The 300 I6 in question is the LS-headed mongrel, yeah? Let the valve cover stick through the hood like a Mopar Shaker and make people go "What the hell am I looking at?"
In reply to NickD :
Oh, good point, the intake won't have to sit over the valve cover anymore, since the intake and exhaust ports are on different sides of the head (dumb idea for a carbureted inline, great idea for literally everything else) so the engine will be able to be a lot lower overall.

I mean, its a good idea for a intercooled turbo motor?
Exhaust runs through turbo, straight to the front of the vehicle, through intercooler to the other side of the engine, then to the intake!
In reply to Mr_Asa :
As long as it is fuel injected Or has a row of sidedrafts, I suppose [drooling noises]
Long inlines especially relied on keeping the intake manifold hot with exhaust heat to keep the fuel from puddling in the long intake plenum, to the point that a lot of Chevy sixes actually used the exhaust manifold as the floor of the intake manifold.

Carb'd did that, yeah. EFI has the opposite problem. They had issues with fuel boiling in the fuel rail. Boosted the fuel pressure to 54PSI

Or take a different Mopar cue and install the engine 30 degrees off vertical. Cue even more massive confusion when you pop the hood.

Considering how big the intake is, it would definitely stand proud of the hood with that.
