How’s the 2021 SCCA autocross season shaping up?
What’s this about a new hill climb in Kentucky?
Time Trials Nationals really moved to June?
Runoffs at Indy?
Is Heyward Wagner really replacing Howard Duncan as the club’s Senior Director of Solo/RoadRally/RallyCross & Experiential Programs?
Did someone mention an SCCA podcast?

So, questions for Wednesday? What's new in autocross? What to expect at TT Nats? Hill climb stuff? Heyward's Honda project?
David I'd love to tell you we're going to answer all of these hard-hitting journalism questions, but I think mostly this is just going to be an hour of me asking Heyward how awesome he thought my MR2 was.
Maybe a few questions.
I don't recall National being behind a Hillclimb before, have they done this in the past?
And why would they do this now?
Is there a bigger plan to expand Hillclimbs, a one off, or is this just a part of expanding the TT program?
Paul B
First hillclimbs then expansion of the actual rallysprint program as well please.
That would be cool!
And use lower the cage requirement?
In reply to Donebrokeit :
No, as when things go wrong, they'll go wrong in a similar manner. But less road length needs means fewer volunteers needed, no transit stages, an event that can be done in 2 days instead of effectively 4 for organizers. The greater opportunity for those with log booked cars to utilize them. And as event numbers increase hopefully shorter tows and a healthier volunteer pool to pull from with regards to organizers.
Between rally sprint, hillclimb and stage rally, eastern KY, TN, Western SC, NC and SE OH have a fledgling number of significant events, And there are rumors of a rally sprint coming together in southwestern WV. If you join those events together into a regional type championship, even if the sanctioning bodies for the individual events aren't under a single umbrella, there's a significant value from a exposure, marketing and entry number aspect.
If you want big time exposure, put a legal cage in a late model and have a cup driver take a run up one of the hills. It's much closer to how stock car racing started, then the ovals of today. The crossover traffic regarding views would be absolutely huge.
Pastrana has background, experience and history in both rally cars and stock cars. Have him take a run up and be the coach and laison to the cup driver. I believe that Kurt Busch still has a partnership with monster energy, in addition to the cup sponsorship by monster energy. This is the type of marketing that is monster's wheelhouse. If such a proposal hasn't been developed and submitted to monster, there is a failure at the organizational level...
This is a rather simple made for high level YouTube video production formula that is worth six figures.
My issue and a lot of other people is the Rally cage requirements make the car useless on the street, cost a lot more then most other cages, add a lot of weight, and makes the car uncompetitive in most other events.
Having been around Hillclimbs for a while I have seen off the shelf road race cages hold up quite well when cutting trees down. In my opinion the rally cage requirements are over kill.
Maybe there is a middle ground and I haven't found it.
Pastrana at some SCCA events...
I like that.

The daughters already have karts, I feel that it's just a matter of time...
We will be live in less than 10 mins! Here is the link to the YouTube stream: https://youtu.be/Xg4nUAT7juc
That was absolutely fantastic. I'm wishing that I'd be physically capable to drive pine mountain this year.
Also, is it too late to suggest the name of pinewood derby hillclimb?

Wouldn't they have to race downhill then?
It is great to hear the National Solo organizers speaking conversationally about class restructuring and consolidation. Between the virtual town hall and this interview it is evident that there has been much discussion behind the scenes toward such an objective.

Yes, I enjoyed that as well. True story: While watching the comments last night, I was also looking through the SCCA autocross rule book, wondering where the Garage Rescue Miata fits these days. It wasn't built for a class, but maybe it would fit into STR or CSP, I figured.
Then Heyward started talking about simplified rules and building a car that you like and having fun. So it hit me: The correct answer is Xtreme Street.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
XS is one of the most exciting things to hit AX since the original Street Touring came out.
In reply to Javelin (Forum Supporter) :
I can see that. I ran Street Touring the first year it was offered at Solo Nats--as a supplemental class, I believe, and as car No. 01 I left the line first--and dug the relatively simplicity of the rules. Likewise, I dig CAM today.
Is the Miata maxed out for XS? Heck no. Twenty years ago, it made 112hp at the wheels. But I'm still excited to try it.
