Update: My sister found a car last week. It was one of the recommended, but a bit older than I would have gone for.
2018 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring. Only 31k miles, from Carmax for $21k. They also sprung for the 150k warranty, don't know how much that added. Good choice of car, I would have went newer, lower spec with a factory warranty. The car looks new, but 7 years is 7 years. She's happy with it.

Lot of car for under budget, with a long warranty, and she's happy. Sounds like a win. The Carmax warranty is supposed to be a good, no drama, one.
