City of Charleston, City of N. Charleston, City of Goose Creek, and SCHP all have P71s still in service. Both marked and unmarked. Without the road salt to destroy them, they last a long time. It will be a long time before the association dies around here.
Kinda wild that these weigh 4000 pounds.

Let's be honest. The P71s went into service with the police in 1992. I've had 28 years to develop somatic reflexes around them that I'll never be able to shake.
They converted some to propane cars and they're still in service around here.

The classic Swedish word is "snut" - translates pretty good to cop I would say. When I was young the term "Bengen" was used, and things like "Bosse batong" (Bo the Baton), PoPo. Today young people tend to say "Aina".
I also grew up using the name "Harry Haffa" (where "haffa" is basically a verb for busting someone). It came from the Swedish car magazine Wheels, where they had a comic strip. The main character, Wille Wheelie, was chased by the policeman Harry Haffa. Wille was accompanied by a friend/competitor, named Eugene Fotogen (Eugene Kerosene).
This is the first strip, where Wille has installed twin superchargers in his Anglia hotrod. Harry spots him and yells "No hotrods on my street!" and as Wille floors it, the superchargers blow off and land on Harrys Volvo cop car. Instantly gaining applause from the crowd, saying "Nice stance!" and "All you need now is some fat rear tires".

If you grabbed a GM or Ford engineer from 1950 and dropped them into this car, they would be amazed. The family station wagon? It has AWD and a raised suspension for off-roading. It makes 300hp from 2 liters because it has both a supercharger AND a turbocharger along with high-pressure fuel-injection and it hardly pollutes anything. If you could drive it into a wall at 60mph you would walk away without a scratch, but you can't because it would slam on the brakes for you or swerve to avoid the wall without you. Oh yeah, it can mostly drive itself. And see in the dark. And play a billion songs beamed from outer space. And start up on the first try in -60 or +150 weather. And it is hard to get a flat tire, though it will tell you if the air in the tires is low. Then explain how its a Chinese-owned Swedish car and their head would explode.

In 1966 or 1967, my father started purchasing used state vehicles at auction. Cost was $400-$600, as I recall. There was a '62 Plymouth, a '63 Plymouth, and a '64 Ford. He bid on the last 2, hoping to get 1. Won both. Sealed bid auctions.
I drove a hand-me-down from my sisters. "Mine" was a '63 Plymouth 4-door sedan. It was black with the Virginia state seals on the doors painted over. Apparently, it was neither a Belvedere nor a Fury. Bare bones. It had no radio or A/C, a 318 with push button auto trans, and I don't recall power anything. It did have 2 seat belts.
Dad drove the '62 Plymouth and my Mom drove the '64 Ford. All 3 of them looked like un-marked police cars, even into the '70s. I think most everyone slowed down and moved to the right lane, when we passed. As soon as I could afford to, I took the '63 to Earl Scheib for the "I'll paint any car for $29" special, so that it wouldn't be black. Paid an extra $15 or so for just a little body work. They painted the door jams and wheels, even the spare tire while it sat in the truck. They didn't remove the jack foot or retaining bot. Didn't mask the tire. (What do you expect for $29?)

Jordan have you done the thing where you brake boost in 2nd until it dumps you back into 1st, but with no traction control? That's the first thing im gonna do when i get my hands on a later T6

That's just the first year of production for the aero body/modular engine version.
The panther platform itself went into production all the way back in 1979. It was an LTD for the first few years, then was renamed as a Crown Victoria in 82 to differentiate them from the Fox body LTD.
I had my 79 LTD from 86 to 2000. It wasn't a P71, but I I installed the suspension parts, 15 inch wheels with the dog dish hubcaps and a certified speedometer from some P71 cars that were in the you pull it yards, so the P71s were definitely in production, even back in the square body/pushrod engine days.

It was not a fan. Though it did make the guy in the clapped out Accord coupe think it a great idea to spin his tires behind me while waiting at the next light.
