I've seen them in useable shape for under $2,000 before,
I picked up one (2000 ZX3) that was perfectly fine with a new (used) coil pack. $2K plus $50. Of course, I changed the plugs and wires as they'd never been replaced ($100), clogged air filter and replaced the smashed windshield ($250). Runs like a champ, I love it except it still requires a bit more work (new struts/swaybar bushings/endlinks to stop the clunking).
