As long as the BMW is under warranty, he should be ok.  I'd keep the SS but i get wanting a luxury barge.

a former boss of mine had a 550 with the turbo v8. He only had it while it was under warranty and it had 3 "engine out" services.

A 5 series is not really a "barge".  Yeah, it's not a Miata, but it drives a lot better than something like a Crown Victoria.

I have driven the m550ix. It iis a damn nice car. I drove it from Fenton Michigan to Clarkston, about 25 miles on 2 lane roads after dark  headlights are phenomenal. More impressions tomorrow after I drive it in the daylight

While there's no doubt the SS is an epic car, the BMW is SO much nicer.  Maybe he just wants to spend time driving in a nicer car.

See, this is how arguments start on the internet.

"SO much nicer" until something goes wrong, maybe. On the other hand, one small crash in the SS will make one weep tyring to get replacement body parts, so maybe it's a wash.

In reply to Brett_Murphy (Agent of Chaos) :

The fact that something could go wrong with the BMW doesn't change the reality that it's a much nicer place to spend time.  I believe the OP said the BMW has a warranty, is a certified pre owned car, so his Dad should be covered if (when?) something breaks on the BMW.

Things breaking and parts supply affects all the cars available, there simply isn't a car in existence that'll never break, never need maintenance and you can buy all the parts for it forever

I finished your sentence.
