So , my dd, 1994 Integra got rod knock, decided to fix it. Im going to try to list every detail in order to get the best answers.
So b18b1 got rodknock, picked up a b18a1 (earlier model engine)for cheap, swapped the b18b1 heads onto the b18a1 block (done many times before), swapped all sensors, intake, etc. Basically the only used the block and bottom end from the b1 (came almost fully dressed). After it was all back in and plugged in went for first startup, started right up everything sounded good, but check engine light on and shaky idle once at operating temp. Check engine light was from iac I forgot to plug in, woops, plugged it in check engine light off. Shaky idle from vacuum leak of pcv hose, replaced hose thought my problems would be solved, and they seemed to be for a while, let it idle for a good 10 minutes while I put the hood back on and to see if fans turned on (they did). Steady Idle the whole 10 minutes, Go to take it for a test drive an after about 10 feet it bogs down majorly and almost stalls, I stop and it won't rev in neutral almost at all. and the check engine light is back on
turn it off turn it back on again idle at 900-1000 again and it can move again, but then bogs after a little bit once again. Then I discover if I floor it in neutral for about 10 seconds it very very slowly and exponentially climbs to about 1500 then above 1500 it revs like normal, sounds good and I can move it forward and reverse easy, after I let off it falls back to its normal idle. but if I put it under a load and then let off or just fall below 1500 while in gear it bogs down and just barely stays running.
what gives? Things that should be mentioned: somehow the idle adjustment screw was missing, I never touched it but I realized it was missing shortly before first startup, I picked up a new one so I figured my problem must be that I never adjsuted the idle properly, so I did it via the proper process: unplug IAC, loosen for increased idle, tighten for lowered idle, however turning it either way does nothing. I swapped the heads so obviously timing was involved but I quadruple checked and more to make sure that was all in line. there is a small header leak (I can just barley feel it) as I snapped one of the exhaust studs and forgot to fix it before reassembling the car (another woops) I will fix it but for now I don't think that is my problem. My biggest suspicion is another vacuum leak but I have tried to diagnose it with started fluid at every single vacuum connection on the whole car and nothing.
any ideas?
