"Son, I'm going to let you drive my prized Ford Capri Perana. I worship this car."
"I get it, Dad."
"I'm serious. If I had to make a choice between this car and you, it would take me awhile."
"That's not nice, Dad."
"But it's the truth, son. Now. Prove to me that you and my car can co-exist. Or you'll make the choice that much easier."
"Sure thing, Dad! Thanks! You're the best!"
"Now, be careful of the line as you approach the water ... "

"Yeah, uh ... whoops. That's George Miedecke driving his father Andrew's ride straight into the Tasmanian drink at the Targa Wrest Point road rally. Andrew's back injury kept him from running the race himself, so he put his car in the hands of his 24-year-old son ... you can see how it turned out. Apparently, he gave George only two instructions: don't crash, and don't come in second. One out of two ain't bad, right? Right ... ?
Thankfully, both George and his fellow driver were just fine after the dunk. Still unknown is George's fate after his father learned of the news."
ouch.. not the first car to go into the drink there too. Funny how the car was already settled before the spray fell back to the water.
Real lucky he didn't end up upside down.
you mean like the first car did?
Any word on if his father killed him or not?
He said don't crash and don't come in second, then the son proceeds to do both...
He WAS the second one in the drink
If there's one already there, you see the second one dive in, once the driver waves he's on his own. I'm not getting squished by the third car.
Well, it's win, crash, or suck, and who wants to be there to suck?

Funny, I just found that video and put it on Autoblog this morning!
Miedecke senior was an Aussie touring car driver back in the day for those who didn't know.

I guess he did make the choice easier. No car left to compete for the love.
That was a hell of a hit.

That road looks really poorly engineered.
Watching the slo-mo, it sure looks like cars come over the crest of the hill, the road begins to turn to the right, but the pavement crown is pitched to the left, into the brink.
That's not the way it should bank.
He may have wrecked it... but atleast it landed on all four wheels. bonus points for that right?
....and he sticks the landing!

Is this the same event that killed Peter Brock (Aust. touring car hero) a few years back?

Well engineered roads are nowhere near as much fun.
Over crest into medium right off camber, not over crest into easy right...
Brockie was killed on Targa West in Western Australia. There are a bunch of Targas down under, it seems.
