Gotta ask... Was it an auto? and did you drive it in anger?

I would love a BMW Starion.Ah yes I havent expressed my anti-BMW views on here yet. I guess I dont see the point, there is plenty to be had out of the 2.6 it came with. If you need more or MPI 4g63 are fairly common and everybody has done everything with them. I dont know all things BMW seem as close to soulless as a car can get every time I drive one I envision its name being Ralph and it eating a lot of oatmeal :Runs and hides from the BMW crowd:
My [BMW] four banger sounds pretty awesome, IMHO

Yes it was an auto (should have mentioned this I know what a fun killer it is in a neon) I drove in semi anger she had gotten the car knowing they are supposed to be somewhat sporty and asked me as the only person amongst my group of friends with any amount of racing/driving experience to show her what it could do I got to what felt about 90% of the cars potential(about as far as I will push somebody else's car)
The best way I can sum this up is when you get the neon close(Harold in particular) it would play ball very easy to slide very communicative and very dicey at the limit just a huge amount of fun with the ability to scare yourself just a bit. I shouldnt look at real street cars in the same way as I do my thinly vailed race car but at the time it just felt numb. Compared to my new neon its sort of eh. With all this being said I love 2002s(very pretty) I dont know one of these days maybe Ill get to drive a proper BMW on track and really get a feel for them
that was your problem... BMWs are VERY stable right up to and perhaps above their limit.. but if you broach that limit without care... all hell will break loose.. especially on the cars previous to the E36 with the semi trailing arm rear suspension

Probably gutless with an auto; I've only ever driven a five series with it, and it is a dog.
And I kinda doubt that you got it to 90% of its limit. The first time I autocrossed my 318, I thought I had it near 100%. I was nowhere close, and still am not. But I understood why it is called the Ultimate Driving Machine. As stupid and hoaky as that sounds, it really is true. (from a guy who sticks his nose up at most FWD cars)
