Yeah,
Our own Evanb took 2nd in class at Nationals.
Congratulations mate

And Chris got teh 3rd place as well. Was nearly a 1-2 finish but it just wasn't to be.
Lot of Ohio almost-firsts this year. Besides MR, SA and M4 were also being led by Ohio(*) people for much of the weekend but we got relegated to 2nd/4th in SA and 2nd/3rd in M4. And in stark contrast to prior years, all cars finished all runs under their own power! ZB's car was close, though, his trans let go after the last run's finish.
They did a fantastic job hustling that Miata around the cones. It was a great weekend to be out racing. Good job to all the GRMers out there!
e36, although the owners real rallycross car is an e30 that he is in the process of putting a s52 in.
It was "slowbaru" on dirtyimpreza. He is fast.
ah, yeah I've been conversing with him in his build thread over there.
I already now hate e36s after being run nearly off the track by a couple of them at Chump Pittsburgh
Our courses here are so different from the kind of courses at nationals though, I would tend to wonder if an e36 (even swapped) would be faster or not.
This weekend I get to see a BRZ in my class, driven by a stage rally driver
The BRZ in SR wasn't too impressive. Maybe if it was modified a bit and had rally tires it would be able to compete with the Miatas.
I think I could have held off the e36 if I had fresh shocks but I was all over the place on Sunday. The course was brutally rough. Maybe next year.
Someday I'll come down to the WDCR and show you what a real MR car is like.

The BRZ had fastest run in SR by 2.5 seconds. The car had never been in the dirt before practice and there was a very steep learning curve about how the electronics on the car would act. Once the electronics were figured out, then the driving came on and the car was quite quick. They should have tested the car and that's what cost them.

I'm just biased because Miata.
I'm also biased because I hitched a ride back to Houston in the BRZ and the owner let me drive half of the way. It was niiiiiiiiiiice.
There is a 99% percent chance I'll be wearing a "Miata Mafia" shirt by nationals next year. They just work. Hangs head in shame.
Just run a few rallycrosses in one by any means possible. You won't think they are uninspiring after that.
I've been told that my development as a driver will benefit greatly from two years spent in a RWD car. As much as I desperately want to build a 77 Firebird for rallycross, Miata is probably the answer.
