I still hate CVTs.

Constant Velocity or Continuously Variable? wink

That's cool but the automatic 4 speed that showed up as an Also Check Out at the end is really cool.

Actually, the variomatic transmission in the DAF Daffodil was a great idea - miniscule displacement engine needed all the help it could get to keep it in the sweet spot.

A local guy had one he'd brought from Europe (I was never sure why - made about as much sense as importing a Trabant) and it seemed to work quite well.

It was the first working CVT used in a car.

Maybe I missed it, but did the video have a part where the Lego CVT had to go back to the toy store for warranty repair?

Oh, no ... it was fine, because it only used the Lego brand rubberband, which is made of high quality silicone and is perfectly round.  Otherwise it would have self-destructed.

I like the Prius version much better.

Nope. Because it's still a flaming dog turd.

I was unsure of the whole CVT thing until I got my F500, of course in a road car I may not like it so much.

I like the idea of CVT - it's relatively easy to make an engine make max power and efficiency at ONE speed, and then you just make the transmission give you your full range of speed.

Except I really like revving an engine and rowing gears.  Like, a LOT.  More than I like CVT.

Continuously Variable is correct.

There was a kook in Maillardville doing that in the late 1990s

They are like Bosch K-jet.

When they're good, they're really good, but when they're bad, they're horrid.

I really like the Subaru implementation of them.  The accelerator pedal dicates the power you desire and the transmission provides that power.  Smooth seamless "am I going that fast already?" results.

Toyota "berk you, you get 40hp and will be happy" sucks.  Honda and Nissan are similar.

That just means you like being in the wrong gear 99% of the time.

That's okay.  People like weird things.  "Guys" with Diesel trucks like to plant the throttle before boost and throw large amounts of soot in the air to show how inefficient their trucks are, too.  Everybody's got their thing.

With what, the manual trans?

I like boxers, too.  Not the engine. Everybody's got their thing.

Here is the CVT in my Polaris Ranger for the interested. The left pulley is the drive pulley, the right is the driven.
