but they do have a rule about blocking … and yes the lead car is allowed one move, after that it's considered blocking …
in this case I bet they decided that he waited too late to make his move … which made the crash unavoidable … at least that's my take on the situation
Massa on the pole....
I wonder what Alonso's first thoughts were after he heard.....

Sergio Perez, Felipe Massa. Sometimes getting fired is a good thing. Suck it McLaren, Ferrari!
A couple of pretty good drives today. Nice first lap from Lewis.
An uneventful race but some good battles and great passes. Sucks for Red Bull to have such a subpar result in their "home" race.

In spite of Perez' occasional brain fades, I think he did a good job and didn't deserve getting sacked. But Magnussen has been a revelation and is an even better driver. It's been a win/win for both teams and drivers.
Ferrari doesn't deserve Massa. The team hasn't had a really season good since their ethnic cleansing campaign in 2007 and, as always, the drivers are made the scapegoats.
Austria was a good race, not epic, but good. Lewis made a great start but his pit stops need some attention. Webber seemed to suggest how Lewis positions his car during the stops may have some influence on slower times. I don't know but it may be worth checking out.
Lewis continues to have poor pitstop times. Still he was catching Rosberg. I think even without the bad luck finally striking Rosberg out the race, Hamilton would have won.
Alonso and Vettel had a great battle. Very fun to watch. Very fair.
One of my favorite drivers, Raikkonen, looks to be headed for retirement from F1. Too bad. Hope he is healed for Germany GP.
I think McLaren Honda may be driven by:
- Button (Nippon poster boy)
- Alonso (just trying to finally win third title)
Ferrari sacks Kimi and pulls in Bottas and either Perez or rookie.
Bottas future WDC......yeah I said it....
If he can get his butt in the right car, I wouldn't argue against it.
Rossi, out at Caterham. Could be on Haas's radar???? McLaren-Honda, I hope will be awesome!!! Maybe relive some of the Prost/Senna glory days???
Yes I agree, the team and car makes the WDC.
There was a time that I thought Kamui Kobayashi should have been given a seat with Ferrari or Red Bull. But now he seems past his prime.
Bottas and Hulkenburg may have that same career; just never getting into the proper team at the right time.
Heck imagine if Ricciardo was at Mercedes this year. He would probably make "old" guys like Hamilton or Rosberg cry.
During FP2 Will spoke with Suzie Wolf and the TV crew were gushing over her FP1 times which were .2 sec off Massa's pace. If it were qualy or race times I would be impressed but...we're not talkin' bout the game, we're talking about practice.
practice?
Is this just Frank William's way to get some publicity out of the woman (0% chance of an F1 race seat, anywhere) or his typical way of making sure Massa feels comfortable within the team?
also, bring on Simona!
Rossi confirmed as official reserve driver for Marussia effective immediately.
And I think Massa needs to stop blaming Magnussen for his exit at Hockenheim. At least just call it a racing incident and move on but quit whining man.
Massa's got 30 points, his rookie teammate in the same car has 91. After a while, you have to look at what the common factor is with all those DNFs.
Nico Rosberg needs to quit being such a whiney little Bob Costas. "Why didn't Hamilton let me by when the team told him to let me by?" If you want to pass him, then pass him. This is racing nancyboy.
Great driving by Hamilton and even better driving by Ricciardo. Rosberg did good too but his whining ruined any accolades he would have gotten otherwise.
All that great passing on a track that isn't a passing track! When was the last time the whole podium didn't have someone in the first row at Hungary?

This too, I honestly think this might be one of the best F1 races I've watched in a long time.

That was the best race in a season full of good ones. Alonso did a fantastic job but I loved seeing Ricciardo pass him into the lead.

Whining would have been a string of radio transmissions; I didn't hear that... The real whines occurred when Hammy got spanked in his debrief session. Telling the boss to Berkeley-off will get you a few lashes.

Monsterously fantastic race!!!
I am astounded at Hamilton's skill to make passes. He has had so much bad luck and almost all not his fault. So that has to stay stuck in your side that it doesn't matter how good you are if your car keeps letting you down.
Rosberg did a great run to almost take 3rd back. He just got screwed by Safety Car #1. But his side of the team should have probably tried a much more aggressive strategy to try and take the win.
Ricciardo! Man he is good. His strategy and tire management is an analog to Hamilton's weird ability to go fastest with the least fuel usage. He also got super luck with Safety Car #1. I hope he avoids the media vampires that got Hamilton. Remember him and even Alonso used to be such happy guys? Remember? Now they sulk around trying not to get misquoted. Won't even talk about Vettel getting booed. That was some berkeleying mess. IF they get a proper engine next year Vettel may have a hard time with this guy.

I guess after reading the news reports I would put a lot of that on the team. You tell a driver something is supposed to happen so they drive a certain way. Then it doesn't happen so yeah I would start asking what is going on? You guys told ME that he was moving over. I didn't tell you that. So why tell me something is going to happen when Lewis hasn't said OK cool yet. Dumb pit wall guys!!!
Just like Button should have been asking, HOW MUCH LONGER FOR THAT RAIN????

I'm not that much of a Fernando Alonso fan, but I gotta feel for the guy a little. Hasn't won since Spain in 2013 and he's so close to a checkered flag he can taste it. Moments away from victory and there goes a Red Bull. But hey, at least it wasn't Vettel! A win sure would ease much tension around the Ferrari camp as well, as they've definitely had a subpar season so far. Where the heck is Raikkonen? Talk about a driver not performing to his resume. On top of all that Ricciardo is only 60 points out of 2nd place. Who knows what could happen in the next few months.

While it's certainly mathematically possible, it's very unlikely that Ricciardo will make up 60 points in 8 races. He's driving well, but the Mercedes is so much faster than the Red Bull that he needs for both Mercedes cars to suffer bad luck in order to win. (brake problems in Canada, some of the same plus safety car & Hamilton's fire in Hungary).
