There are some long threads on Maxjax mods on garagejournal.com. One thing I want to do is buy a longer hose and string it overhead so I can quit tripping over it. EvanB, I could use a source for couplers, thanks.

You don't need to level the floors, you just need to plumb the columns.

Yeah, could do that, but it's a really rough floor that seems to not be level just about anywhere. I kinda want something smoother in there for wheeling around in the place. Something more like what you have in yours.

I dont own a lift because my garage is tiny but since my boss lets me use the lift at work after hours i never do anything under the car at home.

I always thought lifts were a waste until i had access to one everytime i want it. My dream garage has a lift and pit!

I emailed to check on the lift because it's been a month and I hadn't heard a thing. Turns out Dannmar had a manufacturing delay and so they'll ship next week. That's ok, I'm in no rush. I'm just glad the lift is still coming!

Inspect everything very carefully as soon as it arrives. Mine had gotten dropped and dragged somewhere in shipping and I had to fight hard to get a replacement column.

They come packaged with some serious protection around them, but even that was badly damaged before it got to me.

Bonus points for screwing a piece of 1x1 at one end to work as a stop. Figure out where your wheels go when you're on the lift. Drill two holes through each piece of wood and into the concrete, big enough for a piece of rebar or a long nail with a little bit of wiggle room. Now when it's time to load the car on the lift, you drive up on to your pieces of wood that are securely held in place. Lots of room to swing the lift arms underneath. When you're not using them, you just set them aside. One of our lifts at work has special low profile arms, makes all the difference. I'll try to get a picture for you. They could be made at home.

Good call on this.. I'd appreciate pictures! I've been planning on making something like this to go with my lift for a while, it'd make things way easier.

Anymore feedback, good or bad, from you MaxJax owners? I currently have a rotary 10k pad lift, but am now looking to add another lift that leaves the entire underside of the car open. I have low ceilings in my shop, so unfortunately can't use a full size two post, so the MaxJax is very attractive.

Still waiting for the anchors to arrive for mine but I should have some impressions in the next week or so.

Interestingly enough a Mercedes, well a pair of them, is what has pushed me over the edge to seriously look at them as well. Soon I will be going through the ABC suspension on both the s600 and cl600, so having the entire underside open will make a huge difference.

I love my MaxJax.

I think they're great. I leave one post anchored full time and wheel the 2nd in place only when I need it. Frees up space & takes ~10 minutes to set up when needed.

Same here, though I did take both down last winter so that I could park an extra car inside.

I was looking at the specs, and what struck me is that it mentioned a maximum overall height of 84 inches. Given that the standard ceiling height is 96 inches, it strikes me as odd that they left off where they did. I'd think that another 12 inches of workroom would be pretty precious.

I wonder if that extra 12" would add to the column such that the portability would suffer...

I think the 84 inches is the top of the lift column at full lift. The top of the car is going to be considerably higher than that so you would not be able to lift most cars 12" higher and have them clear the ceiling.

Max pad height is 45 inches, and you can add 3 inch extenders. I'd like the extra lift, but that would entail up-engineering the thing with a matching price increase.

Yes, most cars would smush into an 8 foot ceiling before the lift maxes out.

Yes 45 inch pad height but add the average car to it and you're close or past a standard 8' ceiling. Another foot of lift height and almost nothing would fit.

I have a 10.5 foot ceiling and the cars get pretty close, especially with the hood open.
