Oh, on the seats, look around for an upholstery shop that does hot rods and stuff. Old school American cars have super easy seats to work on and most of the old guys can sling new vinyl on them for really, really cheap.

It was a joke.... Every redneck add for a Camaro always as it spelled wrong and I ran with it.

305 just blew oil out the #6 spark plug and leaks bad from there when running and full of oil. So I'm going to need to price 305s or 350s, I really need to get this done as cheaply as possible, though being a real cherry car mechanic, and not a lot of time to diagnose before I leave town, I'm not sure if I'll really need a WHOLE engine. But if I'm doing head gaskets or whatever, for the first time ever, and there's a better option..

A local mechanic will look at it in a couple/few days. The car was $600 and though ugly really was running great and fun, got me up to the VA hospital a couple times a week, 100 miles.. We just don't have alot of money and this engine issue came from nowhere. It's stranded in Albany OR while I figure out an alternative to a $175 tow back to my place in Dallas OR, which I'll probably end up having to do. Luckily I leave tomorrow until the 28th for a job paying 1k, and I am going to need to know if there's anything cheap someone has laying around out there, willing to help out in some way. I did post a WTB ad in the Classifieds here...

Also, the car is brown, and anyone who has cheap primer, we're going to have some Army stickers and GRM stickers in the windows and go flat green and flat black with the car.

Hopefully - my first Chevy, my first huge engine issue, and right at a time when I really needed ANYTHING that drives. I knew I should have found a cheap LTD wagon. ;)

The local place is telling me $350 for a 305.

Thanks all!

If you need to replace this engine, then try to find yourself a 350. It should be the same price-wise, and yes, it is worth it. That is of course if all of the planets align and you can find one.

Regardless, good luck.

If it just tossed the plug, what about a Heli-Coil insert installed in on that cylinder?

I want to think if a guy spent 6 months or less trolling through local CL listings he could find a good shortblock, maybe even something rebuilt and not yet run, some used Vortec heads in good condition, etc etc and piece something together. Asking around here as well might help. If you can keep it limping along for a while and build something in the shop as funds and time permits this should be a cheap thing to build up.

Watch CL for 350s, found several in brief search in $400-550 range, claimed to be lower mile rebuilds from parting out wrecks w/ some mods... cam, intake etc. FWIW

Thanks guys. We'll see what someone experienced says over the next couple of days and hopefully I can keep it running for cheap. It did grow on me.
