I am sure they see it as small two door with tiny back seat = small two door with tiny back seat.

When you get tired of the Fiat, check back with the rental store and see if they will put you in something different. What they have on the lot will vary from day to day and though they likely will not put you in something awesome, something different can be interesting too. See how many you can try.

Don't worry too much about the Fiat. Its a car and I commute all of 10 miles to work. I will get to say that I have given it a good try-out and be able to speak to the good and bad. I do like the retro looks.

I also have back-up in the form of the MGB GT.

In the grand scheme of things, this is small E36 M3.

???,if people back up without looking in at least one of the 3 mirrors offered why would you think those same people would stare at the center of the dash while reversing??

Sorry to hear about your baby getting damaged,it sucks.

if people can miss seeing my Disco.. then a small FRS does not stand a chance at being seen.

Sorry you are going through all this. I used to scoff at the new cars with the automatic brakes.. but I begin to think they are a good idea.. at least while reversing

Happened on my own street.

To add insult to injury, what of all things should I find myself chasing down the ON ramp to the 401 on the way to Healey Night?

Why a raven black FRS! While I might have got him to look in the mirror and think WTF, he did smoke me to the end of the ramp.

I will be honest, I thought the Fiat had some sporting DNA ala early Mini, but it just ain't so. Is the Abarth the same disappointment or was there Magic performed somehow? This really is a Toaster.

On the repairs, if I was the adjuster writing the estimate, I'd be OK with putting a new door skin on the car. I'd want to see the frame in person to see if it's bent beyond repair.

It seems that people get the impression when it comes to bondo/filler that a body shop just uses it like silly putty to "fill in" the huge dent. A good body shop doesn't do anything like that. They'll get the sheetmetal back to almost perfect, the tools they have are amazing. Then they put an oh-so-thin layer of filler on it to just smooth out the tiny imperfections. Classic car restorations do the same thing. This is why it's important to chose a good shop. I have seen the bad shop repair, which is a lot of filler.

Funny thing about this shop...It was clean beyond belief?! The area I toured was more like a showroom full of crashed cars than the dust dunes that I seem to make in my own shop when doing this kind of work.

Everything else in the shop was a BMW or Jag or Mercedes; I felt like a peasant at court.

I've dealt with a ton of body shops like that. While they are often a royal pain in the a$$ to deal with from an insurance company perspective, they typically do stellar work.

Ouch that sucks!

Back when my dad got his GLH new off the lot he was driving it home the day he got it an I beam came off a truck in front of him and pealed the driver side open like a sardine can. The driver's company had to pony up for a new GLH.

Toss in a new Miata and you got a deal!

And the outcome...

Adjuster met with the shop manager and agreed to the following:

Toss car on rack and do alignment. New front fender. Entire new door. All the trim and bits to include a new wheel-well liner. Paint entire side of car. Did not see the last bit coming, but I guess it makes sense.

sounds like your shop and adjuster know what they are doing and want to do it well. Good job

Because people can't help but look at any sort of display screen. Clearly mirrors are for checking your teeth and to see if your hair is perfect. Hopefully proximity sensors will come with the camera thus further reducing the number of children backed over and objects bumped into. Car manufacturers are really trying, but you can't fix stupid.

Not to mention the rearward visibilty in modern cars is horrible. Because of the number of morons in SUVs and other large trucks on the road (See: bro-dozers rollin' coal!), many of those tailgating people because they are horrible human beings, manufacturers have to reduce the amount of rear window area to provide appropriate safety capabilities to reduce whiplash and other injuries (look at the annoying headrests many newer cars are coming with now).

Yep, blending. Long and short of it is that since the body shop doesn't have the batch of paint used when your car was painted at the factory, it's near impossible for them to match the color to 100% spot on, dead nuts identical. They can get it to extremely close, say 98% identical. They'll blend that paint into the factory paint so you don't have a stark cut off line from original paint to new paint. With a good shop, the paint is so close to begin with, you'd have a hard time noticing even without a blend...with a blend it's completely impossible. They likely won't paint the entire quarter panel, just feather it in, then clear coat the whole thing.

Glad it worked out.

At least black is easier to make the repair disappear than most colors including white. The car is so new you'll probably not be able to tell it at all after about 90 days.

I installed LED Trailer lights from Superbright LEDS under the bumper of my disco as extra brake lights. I cannot tell you how many times I have had cars tailgating me so closely I could not see them behind me

Since the poor thing never gets washed, it should blend in after about 2 hours! I think that is what put the bad JuJu on the car: It was in for service the day before and the dealer washed it. I forgot to tell him about my superstition.
