Do away with the entire ahead at the apex nonsense and let them sort it out.
Force a car off = penalty, you go off as well = even bigger penalty

I'm probably the biggest Max apologist in this site. Based on past rulings, the Turn 4 move should have been 5s (if anything at all). But the Turn 8 clown stunt should have been a drive-thru penalty or even a straight-up black flag, end of race, GTFO ruling. Completely uncalled for.
Apparently there was a "very productive" driver's meeting this weekend about future rules changes. I wonder if some drama from that private meeting has spilled over into the race, and if the Max BS was his stupid protest in response to something he didn't like.
Nice to see Lando get into 2nd, but also too bad that they don't have the speed to close. Piastri should have closed better on Mags and Max, as well.
And Max made it easy for Ferrari to pass Red Bull. Well, that and Red Bull Jr helped keep RBR's points way down.
Nice weekend Carlos! Lando stayed in it. And relative spectacular weekend for Haas.
Carlos was undisputed king today. I was surprised Lando made it back to second, but Charle was just off all weekend. Losing the left front in FP1 was probably not a great help.
I love that drivers are starting to catch on to Max's tricks and are using them against him-brilliant!
Hamilton- Russel battle was a master class in racecraft IMHO. Norris- Leclerc was good also, push your opponent to failure. Gentlemen racers.

It's the way most of us were taught to race in karting

I was wondering if Charlie's tires were cooked by then or not. He kind of answered that question for all of us. Lucky that he kept it out of the wall, as those points were vital to push RBR to 3rd in the constructors.
BTW, the whole bad way Red Bull deals with their drivers came very out in that Perez-Lawson incident. And how Perez kept at it after Lawson crunched into Colipinto. Red Bull cost themselves points, and they have no idea how to deal with it.
I was surprised to see K Mag matching the pace of Max, and then some, toward the end of the race.
Seems like Haas has found a little something extra.
This is the first time I can see Verstappen retiring early. But then he is exhibiting the Redbull ethos of F everyone else. I do see his race as a calculated effort to ensure the Ferrari gets ahead of Lando. Minimize the chance of losing his WDC. Ignoring the Constructors. But then RBR may not mind the extra wind tunnel time from finishing 3rd in 2024.
Expert strategy or hyper aggressive antics.
You have to wonder about a driver who has a comfortable lead in drivers points that he could finish behind his rival and still nearly eliminate him, but chooses to act like a spoiled brat and lose several points instead.
Yep, you sure showed him who's boss!

Why should he have retired early?
For some one leading the wdc I think his driving was pretty stupid.
That was a pretty good race.
I am still confused about te stewards calls on some of the other incidents.
It sure seemed like the Perez and stroll incident should have been a penalty for Perez. The Perez Lawson incident was also iffy. It looked lie colopinto also deserved a penalty.
It just seemed a bit inconsistent again.
I hope they get this straightened out this week.

Because he has already talked about it. He talked about not needing to be an f1 driver and he has other things he can go do once he is tired of dealing with the f1 bullE36 M3.

I think some of the penalty degrees take into account what the outcome was. So IF they were to blame Perez, the fact that he clearly dropped back fast- why penalize him. If it was Lawson, he later got damaged.
That's kid of my theory.
I'm not really sure why Max got 10 seconds on the first one- unless it was because they thought they needed to cool that battle down. The second one was pretty clear why he got 10.
There's supposed to be a big meeting later this year about passing, but I doubt it will have any significant impact. Lots of claims and hopes, but someone will take advantage of it- throwing that entire meeting out of the meeting room. So many of the drivers (not just max) have made some incredibly clumsy and dumb passes.
In regards to track limits, lots of commentary revolves around the concept of gravel run offs or similar deterrents. This is a concept I'm soundly against, as I don't like the idea that a small, unintentional mistake from, say, a rookie competitor can force my favorite driver into the gravel and ruin his race.
That said, I've been mulling over recent events and I have 2 proposed rule changes that I think will solve everything.
1) The current track limit rule is stupid. If 99% of your car is on or over the white line, you are not on the track. Change the rule to apply to the outer tire as opposed to the inner tire. If any one tire goes completely outside the white line, you're off the track. Keep the current 4 strikes rule and everything regarding qualy and lap times the same, just make the drivers actually, you know, stay on the asphalt.
2) Alla the time you hava to leava da space. Call it the Alonso rule. If any part of a competitor's car is alongside your car, you have to leave a full car's width to the white line.

Ver has mentioned retiring from F1 before 2026 rule change. Because.....life
I like racing, I usually find Max to push the limits but I thought he liked racing too - that was a petulant drive at best
:/
I also thought it was a pretty good race, and Lando reeling Charles in towards the end of the race was fun to watch. It's interesting how much better the Big Macs get towards the end of a race, almost like the lighter they get the faster they go.....and they're def easy on the tires.
Ferrari had issues all weekend with the brakes getting hot and had to lift and coast almost the whole race to keep temps in control.
Kudo's to HAAS, more and more I think it was past time to offload Gunter and the results are showing up on track. Too bad Kmag is probably out of a drive next year, but he's going out strong at least.
Alpine also has quietly snuck up on the midfield, Gasly showing why the team kept him and Ocon showing why they didn't keep him.
Tsunoda did not have a good weekend, and this was one he needed to be good, as Red Bull is strongly considering him to replace Perez on the varsity team, but not if he keeps having this kind of race.
I thought Max made an impressive drive after the penalty. You all know I am the first one to pounce on Max but to recover from a 20 second penalty to 6th was a good save.
Tsunoda, Albon and Alonso had rough weekends.
Regarding Albon's crash in FP1. When I watched the on board it looks like Bearman slowed on corner exit (he should not have slowed until he went to the left side of the track to let Albon by) and Albon had to correct to avoid but couldn't tighten his line. But the commentators keep writing the Albon spun and Bearman just happened to be in the area.
Russell had a rough start to weekend but recovered.

The more I see of his immaturity though, it's like long term legacy things that take the hit. Lebron James style. Stats aside if people remember the whining and childish behavior as much as your accomplishments, maybe reconsider your actions.
