I'm bored, so I'm looking at vehicles. Unicorn trucks. Specifically, Hybrid Yukons, Escalades and Tahoes on the GMT900 platform.
Most of the examples I've found have high miles but appear to be in great shape. They really look to be in great shape. I haven't found many that look abused. The GMC looks best to me, but they're all about the same. It's a bummer that I'd probably be stuck with the factory double-DIN head unit, since the hybrid display is there. Still, NAV and bluetooth...
Any reason I wouldn't want one? Any experience?
One of the large, wine and cheese, car mags happened to have a conventional c1500 in their long term fleet when they tested the hybrid so they were able to do a direct comparision. They found the conventional truck to be better in every way including fuel mileage.

Thanks! I didn't see your review come up in my searches. It looks like you have the worst MPG observation out of all of the reviews I've seen, and that's with you noting gentle driving and even hypermiling. I'm wondering if that's related to your tester dying on you. Consumer Reports was talking about around 19.5 across their testing, and this was over footage of the truck screeching around their test track.
Do you remember anything about the ride and steering being particularly good or bad? Reviews have been on both sides, and I think GRM would have a good sense of these things. The steering is electric, which I haven't hated as much as I'm told I should. Still, this would have been early electric steering in a huge truck, so maybe not best of breed?

My old boss had one for 3 years. Up here in our climate the hybrid didn't save much in the winter since the engine had to run for heat anyway.
They have a number of unique parts that don't come on the other versions - aluminum hood, special lightweight seats, etc. IIRC - the transmission has no reverse. Reverse is handled by the electric motors.
Funny thing is that GM chose to put their biggest LS engine (6.0L), plus the electric motors. They will accelerate! You would think that with the electric motors they could have run the 4.8L.
When he traded it in, the dealership had it loaded on a truck - apparently they are all sent to Florida, Texas, or California as they get much better resale down there.
