That was a fun time, cruising. lots of displays, hanging with GRMers, drinking home brews.

2016 we are talking about doing a Friday to Sunday trip, we can find a host hotel, join us for a day, join us for the weekend, but come along and have some good old car dorkiness.

Who is in?

They say it is 100,000 cars and 1,000,000 people, it is freaking huge

I was at the cruise all day. Wish I would have known about this BEFORE it was over! Had a great time. I am in for next year. Not sure about three days but I'll do some.

I remember when it was just a small thing at the end of summer. Some side street racing by the old guys down the mile streets, once saw a 70s challenger blasting down 7 mile to Livernois with a modern Mustang and a Nova in tow. Used to actually go into Detroit, but now they are only in the burbs.

Looks even bigger now.

Yeah, it's stinkin' HUGE. It's 4 lanes, but it's a boulevard, so 8 lanes from Detroit (just about) to Pontiac and back.
And it essentially starts on Monday and goes to Saturday. Saturday isn't even worth going for me anymore. Last time it took me two hours to go a mile. I was in the mini sitting behind a minivan, next to an Excursion, and in front of a Grand Am. I didn't see a cool car the whole time. Now I go during the week and hit Back to the Bricks on Saturday.

The good thing about going on Saturday is that that's when all the static exhibits are up, like Mustang Alley, the Old Woodward show, the manufacturer exhibits, etc.

Saturday is a great day to walk around and see everything, but I don't recommend driving Woodward that day unless you go very early.

Driving is fine on Saturday as long as you confine yourself to Pontiac and Bloomfield Hills. From Birmingham south, it's a parking lot after about 11 AM.

I really missed out this year.. Was crewing for my best friend @ Flat Rock Speedway and we went to MIS on Sunday.

Ended up writing a blog post on why I wasn't going to Woodward this year. If it's too spammy, feel free to ask me to remove it:

As stated above, Saturday is a MUCH better day for checking things out than it is actually participating.

I think the best time I had was when I parked way down off 9 mile and walked the rest of the day. Just like a day at the track. NO cruising just walked from 9 mile up to New York Bagel then ate bagels as I looked around.

The second best time was when I was assigned to drive an engineering test special V6 manual transmission stratus sedan that was a little more potent than the RT Chrysler produced in the early 2000's. It caught some eyes as they heard the exhaust burble and noticed the M-plate. As fun as that car was, I really wish they would have just brought the Mexican 2.4L Turbo Manual version instead of doing the V6.

I eventually got tired of the cruise as it was just too crowded. Now that I am living far away I miss that car culture.

Yeah, I'm pressing for Friday next year if I'm riding along with somebody in a proper car again like I did this time. I've been going every Saturday since 2011 and it gets a little more crowded feeling every year, and not in a good way. Smells less like raw exhaust, less barely legal cars running around, too many cops. Or maybe do Back to the Bricks on Saturday instead.

I am thinking we filter in Friday, or earlier if you can, we get rooms and set up our base at a host hotel. Saturday morning we hit the bricks, then back to the cruise and party into the night. Sunday is recovery and limp home licking wounds

In the Roush tent in Ferndale, off to the side of Mustang Alley.

I was out there Friday! I had a Canadian stop by and comment on the 10th AE, he told me not to sell it because he regrets selling his.

Its a good time, I support the Saturday 'back to the bricks' idea for the morning.
