back when i had my mazdaspeed3, i had a lady get pissed at me because i wouldn't let her in her mercedes (c350 iirc) when she ran down the right lane behind a parked charter bus and wanted to cut in front of me. i watched her pop out of line way back behind and run up the lane. she was so pissed that after she cut off the car behind me, she ran up behind me flashing her lights at me at the next stoplight to make sure i knew she was more important than me since she drove a merc. then when the light turns green, she starts riding my ass, so i went ahead and gave it the beans and ran up through a couple gears to put some distance between us. then as we're approaching the next light i can see that we're going to catch that one as well. as the light turns yellow, i get on the brakes only moderately, but enough to ensure my brake lights are on, as she is rapidly closing the gap that i'd put between us. as she is closing in, again flashing her brights, i go ahead and use up the rest of the brake pedal. not full lockup-ABS stop, but just about twice as much deceleration as before. she then realizes that she's closing faster than she thought and has to jam on her brakes, everyone else at the light is looking around wondering why this fancy merc is in full ABS modulation coming up to a light thats clearly been red for a few seconds. i get a better look in the rearview and i can see her husband yelling at her because she's driving like a maniac and the kids are crying in the back seat. she turned off at the next opportunity after giving a few more flashes of the brights.

I'm not sure it's a good plan to force someone into a panic stop when they're behind you. Going slowly will infuriate them just as much.

Lemme tell you, if you drive one of these nobody will ever cut you off.

I was in Denver for Shopping Weekend this year and a guy in a crew cab pickup decided to play the Big Truck card in a parking lot. He jumped into the oncoming lane, confident that anyone coming the other way would dive out of the way. Boy, was he surprised when he found my crew cab pickup with a big push bar facing him. I had no room to get out of his way, so he had to abort the plan.

It isn't so bad. The key is to drive something you don't care about. Once you lose the part of you that keeps saying "but it might damage my car" things get a lot easier. I had a guy try to push me out of my lane on 285 once. He kept coming over so I let him hit me. He scraped his nice Explorer down the entire side of my POS Sunfire. I never moved and he was beating the dash like a mad man. I guess in the previous time he pulled that move everyone had moved. Not me. Sadly I now drive a car I care about so this doesn't work anymore.

I tried to do this. I loved my '11 Mustang too much, so I bought a '93 Toyolla Wagon that I "wouldn't care about" that could be driven in ugly weather.

Sadly, I now like the little wagon, too.

Today going to work on I90 brand new Audi TT is humming it through traffic while I am just cruising a tad over the limit only getting in the left lane to pass slower cars. Meanwhile The TT is weaving in and out of all three right lanes trying to pass me. We are now approaching the Allston Brighton tolls. As we come up on the tolls the TT boots it around a car that is next to me and barrly slides in in front of it almost rear ending a Fung WA bus that is in front of the car next to me. The TT then jerks it to the left in front of me and starts accelerating down towards the fast-lane lanes on the left side of the tolls.

Now I happen to know that more often than not there is an unmarked car sitting in the center lane between the in bound and out bound lanes hiding behind the two toll booths that are not used. The officers will use the laser gun and stand next to and behind the toll booth as the speed limit drops from 45 to 15 at the automated toll lanes. I am now giggling a bit as I can see the silhouette of the officer aiming his laser at "us" as the TT is pulling away from me as we approach the toll booth.

Then from out of nowhere a gun metal grey unmarked P71 with state police plates comes by me and jumps in behind the TT. I can now see the officer at the toll booth motioning the TT to pull over and he is followed by the unmarked car. By the time I came through the toll they had him out of the car and were asking him many questions. The once shiny happy TT driver did had lost a bit of luster.

I was driving a Ford F550 crew cab. I made no concession to anyone I was making a general comment on the complete chaos out on the roads, I mean six lanes of bumper to bumper traffic at 5:30 a.m. is insane.

I used to drive commercial rigs (no semis.. but BIG box trucks) you would be surprised how often people cut off the big trucks. I saw one semi lock them up, slide off of the highway, and jacknife in the drainage ditch because some asshat cut him off.

Because nine out of twelve times I was cut-off, in one day, it WAS a douchenozzle in a BMW. The other three times were a Lexus and two Mercs.

I used to dd a '67 Dodge crew cab long box truck. I was cut of every single trip by someone who must have been thinking "this guy will be slow" instead of properly thinking "this truck is old and will have poor brakes."

I swapped out the front bumper with a piece of 14" channel iron and a push guard made out of 4x4x3/8" angle iron. People stopped cutting me off.

I've driven around a goodly chunk of the eastern half of the country and it's sad for me to say that some of the worst drivers I've seen are in my home town. All the shiny happy person moves I see around Lafayette are due to simple impatience.

I've also driven in a few police escorted convoys during my time as a chauffeur. It is kind of fun to be a total shiny happy person on the road and have the police right there to back you up.

I live in Atlanta and have driven in Oregon, I would much rather put up with people in the Subies driving slow than the retards on I285 I have to deal with everyday. Idiots weaving through traffic, passing on the right(while there are lanes open on the left), and pulling out of a line of backed up traffic into a lane of cars going 30+mph faster. As I type this I am getting road rage...

To sum up... "I saw a guy get pulled over for speeding this AM".

That was well written and built up quite a bit of suspense. You gotta end a story like that with something big. How about making it so the driver was actually Abe Vagoda or maybe a wolf.

this is the only country I've driven in (I've done Italy, France, Spain, and Poland) where people take driving personally. Sure they drive fast (faster) in other places too but nobody takes it as a personal affront when someone passes you and cuts back in provided it isn't done in a dangerous manner. The only thing that pisses off drivers in the other countries I've visited is if you hold them up. That;s why you don't see too many left-lane bandits.

Yeah, usually if someone is wants to go faster than I do, I 'elastically adjust' to let them pass safely; in gradeschool parlance, I don't need to be the 'line leader'. Having said that, all asshats must suffer! I taught my kids to drive, first lesson was to always buckle up. Second lesson was to act the same in car as if you were walking in a group of people, i.e. try to be polite and show some courtesy.

When ever I tow the race trailer... morons will fly by my big ass truck towing an even bigger ass trailer and slide across my front bumper riding the brakes to beat me to a merge even though traffic ahead is stopped.

I know this - and save their idiot lives every time... but just once I'd like to crush them into the back of the semi ahead or grind the mouth-breathing asshats into paste on a bridge abutment.

It always amazes me that most people only look 3 feet in front of their car while driving. I can't tell you how many times I've had an idiot fly up in the right lane, only to get pushed back because it is blocked by the car I'm about to pass. It's like their line of sight ends with their hood ornament.

We desperately need better driver education in this Country.

In the grocery I am filled with the desire to slap the piss out of every oblivious arse holding a phone - either talking, texting or scanning barcodes on every goddamn thing on the shelves for the best deal. Like they are going to abandon the cart to drive across town and save 0.30 on berkeleying jar of pickles.

If I have to say excuse me for a third time I should be able to just ram them out of the way so I can get at the organic raisins in a timely fashion.
