1962 GM 4106 Bus Conversion built by the same company building his bus.
$25K for this a freakin' steal. I wish something like this would fit my secure bike-storage needs better. Otherwise, I might not be sharing it.
In reply to Marty:
I don't see anything either... The front plate is blurred out and I don't know the various plate colors well enough.

That's really nice.
Can't afford it right now, unless my wife divorces me (which I am not expecting).
Back to OP 40's side storage, art deco'ish.

In reply to Gasoline:
One problem with those is the conversion often deletes most of the RV bits: kitchen, bathroom, etc. and leaving an interior that's little more than a lounge or changing room.
In reply to SVreX:
I couldn't quite remember what your budget is, but when I saw it this thread was the first thing I thought of. IMHO, it's the sort of thing worth getting a mortgage for.
In reply to Ian F:
I am with you.
If I had it to do again, I might buy that instead of a house...
...or maybe instead of a wife!
I didn't really name a budget, because I think this is just a pipe dream, but it makes for a good thread!
Home built or converted school buses are probably going to be a bad idea in the long run, unless you want to be fixing them continuously...as mentioned, it's probably cheaper to fly and stay in nice hotels.
However, since everyone's posting pictures this home built Buick motorhome is the most awesome one I've seen.
That monstrosity is somewhat famous. I've read a few stories about it over the years. Apparently, it still exists, but is currently in severe disrepair. The guy who built it (back in the 60's IIRC) used it quite a bit and drove all over the country with it. He's since passed on.
Edit: found one of the articles I remember: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2010/06/07/just-saw-noahs-ark-details-emerge-on-the-shamrockaway-motorhome/

I can tell you that pulling into some campgrounds in a VW Westfalia will get you the stinkeye from the porch light RV crowd.
I've got nothing to add to this thread other than I once met a guy living behind the Lion's Back Campground in Moab in an old schoolbus. This was years ago, but I remember a dirtbike parked inside and a wood stove. I don't remember curtains. He had a nicely restored Bugeye in a shed beside the schoolbus.
Those Eagles are nice riding buses. The auto takes out their one big flaw, the 40ft long shift linkage. I would take one of them.

I don't remember your criteria but I thought this was pretty neat.

Find a travel trailer. Remove wheels and suspension and bolt it onto the back of this:

(yes... I know it's far over the budget... but it's cool! )

OK, I need a moment here.
That THING is awesome. Wife has said NO to the sail around the planet thing, but I can see doing North America for a few years in that.Comfortably.
