Hi everyone,
I've been working to re-do the organization in my garage, and part of what I'm struggling with is the strange odds and ends that all need to exist but that don't really get used every single day. Obviously, they need to go some nice, clean storage boxes.
After poking around on YouTube for a bit, I noticed some red storage boxes in the background of one of Casey Neistat's videos. A bit more digging, and he has an entire video dedicated just to the boxes:

I really enjoy the way he has this part of his shop organized, and would like to mimic it. The only problem? He states in the video that he can't remember where these boxes came from. That's where GRM comes in...can we find a comparable option that won't ruin my bank account?
Here are the details:
* Hinged lid with a simple friction latch closure
* ~12"W x ~12"D x ~4"H
* Solid Color, not transparent
What are these boxes and where can I buy them? They look to be the perfect size, with an attached lid and a secure way to keep themselves shut. I need them, but my typical searches on Amazon, Harbor Freight, and Home Depot have come up short. Surely the GRM hivemind can point me in the right direction?

Other DIY storage hacks are also appreciated, as the organization part of a garage is never really "finished". It's a bit like a project car in that regard...

You'll grow to hate those.
Living hinges suck but they don't cost much to make.
A living hinge is that thin piece of plastic that passes for a hinge between the lid and the box. You can see it as the whitish strip on the latch on the last picture.
It will break sooner or later, usually sooner and then the whole thing is useless.
They look like Plano brand boxes.
I'd be looking at Uline or Mcmaster for starters.
Those look like the super cheap tool boxes that everyone sells in an assortment of colors. I have a couple of them that came from ACE.
I would recommend that you use painters tape and a market to label them. Otherwise changing the label is a bit of a pain.
I use open-top cardboard organizers that come flat and you fold them into shape along pre-cut lines. They come in 2,4,6,8, and maybe 12 x12 sizes. Cost $1.50-2 each. My preferred size is 4x12 and 6x12.
Personally, i use standard size bankers boxes. Working great for me!

I use these type boxes with the folding lids. They stack well and are big enough that you can get a odd sized items in them. They come in a variety from light duty to very heavy duty and different colors if that matters to you. I have a heavy duty shelving unit and can put three boxes per shelf. It looks neat and is convenient. Unless you have a lot of small items 12” x 12” x 4” seems small.
