I have a brand new roots type supercharger in the shop (well new 15 + years ago and never used since)  it's a 250 cubic inch size ( think small but long GMC 671 )

I have a few Jaguar V 12s  sitting around and it would be very simple to take a manifold turn it around and cut off the plenum chamber to make a super charger manifold.

Now mount two  650 Holley carbs set up for a supercharged Chevy small block on top.

I realize unlike the myth Jaguars make more power ( year for year) than a Chevy small block and is massively stronger so would this be a dumb idea?

The early ones  had the best heads( think Hemi)    But low compression 7.8-1  later ones had 11.5-1 compression but poor heads ( think 40s-through 50s fireball Chevy 6 )

Since I'll be using 2 Holleys and thus almost 2 times as much fuel as needed maybe I should use E 85? The cooling effect of alcohol and 114 octane  should allow me to make some serious power even if the heads don't flow as well

I think if anyone should do it, it should be you.

With a roots blower, I'd go for less compression / better heads.  If we were talking turbo or a centrifugal blower, then I'd want more compression.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I read Frechy's post.

In reply to rslifkin : I realize I can increase boost to offset compression but the trade-off is more heat . With a roots type blower there really isn't a way to put an intercooler in that works with any degree of efficiency.

In reply to frenchyd :

I've seen air / water setups sandwiched under the roots blower (it's been done in factory applications too).  Or you could do something like Jaguar did on the X300 XJR and mount the blower off to the side with an adapter plate on it and duct it (making intercooler installation easier and requiring less manifold modification).

The Powerworks supercharger I had on my Focus was set up that way.  In the pic the supercharger is on the bottom with the intercooler above and the intake manifold on top.  You can see the hose connections on the left.  The intake manifold and intercooler housing were cast as one piece but the actual intercoooler could be removed.

In reply to rslifkin :while that might be doable  the added complexity probably isn't worth the effort.

My goal is to have some fun. A goal of 500 horsepower at a cost as close to free as possible.
