He says he will take 3800 for it. Says it is mechanically sound and has been maintained well. Car looks clean.
IDK, that seems like a pretty good deal to me. The car is just over 3 hours away, that is how I was able to talk him down. I could take a bus there and drive the car back. The only problem is that I wont be able to see the car before making the jump. I believe it is an older guy selling it, he doesnt text very well :P
Anyway, good deal no? Should I do it? Thanks!
Protenzas? Must be a new offering.
Are you over 6 foot? if so, think twice.
Looks alright to me, it being near stock is a good sign.
Looks like a fair price. I would try to get some photos of the sun damage, interior and the fitment of the top before I pulled the trigger.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but does lack of cruise control from the factory indicate a base model car and therefore no torsen rear end? Might be a consideration if you plan to autocross the car, though if it's as good as the ad suggests it'd be worth the asking price regardless.
Shadow: Not necessarily.
My R-package has the torsen but no CC.
The torsen also makes a difference for some of the classing, it can be situationally undesirable.
I would prefer the Torsen, I do not believe this car comes equipped with one. I thought that was only the M models?
Also I am 6ft exactly. Aftermarket cruise control, but disconnected because the "clutck kickout is not connected". What does he mean by that?
In reply to SnowMongoose:
Ah, I had a niggling suspicion that I was forgetting something. I had forgotten (or never knew) there was a '99 R-package.
What do you mean by "situationally undesirable"? Just that it would put you in a different class in some autocross classing regime?
Scroll down to close to the bottom of this page, there is a "Does this '99 Miata have a torsen" section. http://www.miata.net/faq/99central.html
He's saying that the wiring to get the cruise to switch off when you depress the clutch is not complete, so it isn't a complete installation.
Yes, that's exactly what I mean, the torsen can change classing.
As for a 99 R package being a thing, it very well might not be, I'm just making an example
(disclaimer: my 'knowledge' of these things centers around my 95 R)
At six feet you should be alright, particularly if you try out a foamectomy.
It's when/if you add a roll bar and or hard top that it becomes particularly annoying to be tall.
Base car, Worse seats of any miata, Tight interior if you are a leggy 6' tall, No sport brakes or torsen.
It's an ok price but nothing special. I'm not an NB fan because I just can't get comfortable in them for a longer drive.
I'm just ehh on the car but I'm ehh on most NB's
Yeah no Torsen confirmed. Not hard to swap one in tho, right? I do plan on installing a hard dog sometime. Am I going to be in trouble for my height? As for brakes and suspension I can just buy aftermarket parts
In reply to Desmond:
Not difficult, but fairly expensive. Planet-Miata ask $900-1100 for a used torsen rear end. It could eat up the "good deal" aspect of this car. Of course, if you're not bothered about lack of torsen then who cares?
SnowMongoose: Do you happen to know what the classing change is? I'm on the verge of buying a 2000 w/ torsen myself. I'm not really bothered by classing as I won't be competitive anyway, but it's probably worth knowing!
