I had talked myself into (and out of) and into (and out of) an E90 335i multiple times. At the end of the day, I think I like the *thought* of it, but a 328 could give you 7-8/10ths of the power and 3-4/10ths of the headache?
Not to mention they are also more plentiful, less $, and $ left over to modify/customize it to my tastes.
Thinking of moving on from the vanilla V6 Accord, might need to drive one and see how it fits.

This seems like the appropriate place to ask this question.
I have spent over a year doing research and making decisions as to what my next car will be.
My final two were BMW 128 and FR-S/BRZ.
A couple days ago I finalized on a 128. I do all of my own maintenance and 80% of all repairs exterior to the engine. Engine internals are a no go for me for many reasons. After reading this thread it makes me want to reconsider my choice. What say the hive?
Ah, a question I can answer! I bought a '15 BRZ new and now own a 128i and R56 Cooper S. My first thought is I should have driven the BMW before I bought the BRZ, I never would have purchased it. I love the BMW, even with the added maintenance, the BRZ I tolerated. I know that goes against the grain here, but it's simply not even close in terms of driving enjoyment. Now if it were just going to be a track car, that might change in the Subaru's favor, but as a real car, the 128 is simply better. I drives better, brakes better, is more comfortable to be in, etc. I've owned BMWs in the past, but this one is perhaps my favorite, so much so I am thinking about adding a 135 to the lineup for taking to the track.
Exactly what I put a few posts up. It's just a superior vehicle in everyway. Of course it cost twice as much, so it should be.
Buy another 128 and do the intake manifold, exhaust tune and enjoy 240-250whp in NA form. Of course even an N55 is a downpipe and tune away from 360whp and all the torque all the time.

Coming from a V6 Accord, the E90 328i is going to feel slow and small. Mileage will probably be about the same, but it will handle a whole lot better though.

Interesting. I'd be okay with smaller, and better handling, but was hoping it wouldn't "feel" slower. Others above mentioned intake manifold, exhaust and tune to get to ~V6 Accord levels of power, but maybe it feels more linear and therefore less fast.

I keep seeing talk about the intake manifold and I know the 25 suffered from a crappy manifold; is it an OEM swap? RealOEM is showing the same manifold all across the board and chassis' so I really don't know.

There's a three stage intake manifold swap that you can do. The 2006 330i had it, but the 325i didn't, which resulted in a 40hp deficent from 330i to 325i. People put the 3-stage intake on the 328i and get ~250-260hp at the crank. The three stage manifold is pretty plentiful, it came on the 2007+ E83 3.0si, the E60 530i, and a couple other cars.

Dammit, then my E61 already has it. Looks like I'll just need the tune and exhaust then.
There's also a guy/company that's working on a supercharger kit for the N52 that uses the M122H blower as opposed to the ESS kit; that I can't wait for
