after looking at the new issue, saw the Superformance Mk1 GT40 in Gulf colors made me shudder with excitement. If i start saving today, i might be able to buy one in 10 years.

That is all i have to say.

I shall ruin you dream's. Are you taller then 5 8'. Because you will not fit. That will be 10% of the cost of your GT40.

your query hast thus worried me. I am taller than 5'8. Looks like i need to make the helmet bubble bigger then...

Why do all the good cars have to be made for small people?

From the wikipedia.com article;

'At nearly 6' 3", Gurney struggled to fit into the tight Ford GT40 cockpit, so master fabricator Phil Remington installed a roof bubble over the driver's seat to allow space for Gurney's helmet- now known as a "Gurney bubble".'

Seems doable. Keep the dream alive; these cars seem fairly amazing to me and I share your enthusiasm.

I worked on a car for a Superformance dealer a few months ago. My jaw dropped when he opened the garage door. There was 5 GT40 replicas including 3 race replicas. He said they're about $75k finished....could be more depending on how crazy you want the drivetrain. I'd consider one if I had garage space. I thought the interior was really nice and they didn't feel cheap at all. This actually has more "real" (non plastic) interior pieces than the new GT. I'd honestly buy one of these over a new GT just based on how primitive they are.

I was pouring over the "ins and outs" of those kit cars about 10 years ago or so, until I saw the prices of Lotus seven kits and subsequently Locosts. The GT40 kit is but a distant memory. Anyways, to me a Seven with a 4 banger is more usable on the streets than a v8 GT40.

Dude Superformance's typically go for 70-90K without drive-train. The last one I drove was like 110K with a mechanical injection 427. It had a huge Gurney bubble through and I was still claustrophobic in the thing.

Not sure what angle you're working, but Filipinetti often fielded cars that didn't come from Maranello, including Corvettes.

The team entered a GT40 for the 1966 Monza 1000K and finished third. The car in the photos appears to be a tribute to the original.
