My understanding was that a Dyno Queen is something that does well only on the dyno, yet is a show car or something else that won't or can't make use of the power. One hint is a dyno chart showing turbo power that's crammed into the upper 10% of the rpm band.

Being FWD and knowing how stock SAABs work that does not supprise me at all. Just don't try and roll on that car on the freeway.

That's why I posted the crack about Supras.
Toyota Starlet!
RWD, around 1,500 lbs, and you can drop in a 3sgte (mr2/celica gt4 turbo motor) and make as much power as you want. 500hp has been done a few times on a stock block.
Then again there's always Volvo's..
This thread seems more about sleepers than queens. Honestly, dyno queens make me nauseous in the same way that garage queens do. That said, as sleepers go, it'd be hard to beat a built Caravan turbo.
psteav wrote: I always thought that an easy, cheap sleeper recipe would be: 1) Buy lightly wrecked SRT-4 2) Replace wing/hood/fascia with stock neon parts (think you'd have to ditch the FMIC, as well) 3) Paint beige 4) ??? 5) Profit.

Let's change it to sleepers then. Sleepers are more interesting than dyno queens.
I remember seeing a stock-appearing 1984 Corvette with well over 1200hp at the wheels from a thoroughly-modern and massaged twin-turbo. Most people would assume that you think your cross-fire injected V8 was pretty awesome, and would be ready to put you to shame with their 4cyl turbo-whatever. Hee Hee Hee. Something like:

Make that into a wagon with the wood paneling, and we have a ballgame.
Well i guess i dont need to post now because its already out there..
mid 80's Town & Country wagon.
There's actually at least 1 srt-4 swapped one out there and QUITE a few that run 14s, probably a few that are faster, so it's not really an original idea.

I think I remember seeing that car on an episode of Rides.
Junky E36 BMW, preferably the horrible forest green color, with an LS7. Done and done. Oooh, and those clear healights and taillights. Sometimes the best sleeper is a car that looks haphazardly modified.
Some Volvo love:

Yeah i agree with my MS3 being kinda sleeper, and love that SAAB (wish the wife would met me do that to hers)
But the ultimate for me would probably be a 90's legacy GT with a STI drivetrain...
Yeah that hits the spot.

That idea but with the sheet metal from a neon owned by a 17 year old girl who uses that car as an appliance and sometimes battering ram. Have a low hangin muffler held on by coathangers, one mismatched door and fender and steel wheels with mismatched tires and Brittany Spears in the CD player.
Winner

Engine is too flashy
I remember reading about a '79-80 Corvette in a really old Car Craft. The car looked 100% stock--even under the hood.
And it ran 9's due to a huge displacement small block and a E36 M3-ton of hidden nitrous.
