It was burning at the back where there's no wires, just the cat. Having run a burn unit, I'm real glad there was no skin involved as well. Saved the brief case and the nine mike mike. Everything else is gone.
Add another who is relieved that you didn't become your own unit's paitent. Very sorry about the car.

When I was 17, my MX6 got picked up by a tornado with me in it. I got dropped in a guys yard, on my wheels, and rolled into a large ravine. That totaled the car but the ravine subsequently filling with flash flood run-off and submersing it didn't help either.
My teachers did not believe me when I tried the next day to explain what happened to my homework.
Well, that was my only running Lotus. Guess I'll have to drag something on the car hauler for the car show this year.
Damn, really suck about the car but thankfully it can all be replaced. You as others have said cannot be easily replaced so there is that to be happy about.

The car is alive and well and running better than ever. Mad Dawg is doing fine.
Take a deep breath . . . some time will help.
Best of luck!
Very sorry to hear about this. If it helps any I think I popped the brand new engine in one of the F550's today. Last time the dealer got almost 16k out of us. This is likely to be the third engine put in this truck and it only has 114k on it.
Beers are good

By not running, it significantly reduces the likely hood of them catching on fire.

hopefully you'll get some enjoyment searching for a replacement. Sorry about the car.
Oh man, that sucks. Sorry to hear about the car but glad you are okay.
If I had to guess, based on 'power loss then fire started near catalyst' I'd say most likely an overfueling (rich mixture) condition, possibly from a misfire, which caused the cat to get red hot. A big vacuum leak can do that on carbed cars with cats. That happened on my '82 RX7, but no fire.
damn...sorry to hear about such a good looking machine going to the big garage in the sky. Im just glad it wasnt occupied when it did.
