Why? Do you have nothing better to do with your life? Hell, we don't even mess with poopy or the clown that much. Grow up.
I have a 2000 Impala 9C1. I have owned it for close to 2 years, my son drove it the first year and a half.
The 9C1 has a different trans than the civilian. HD unit with a lower gear ratio. I did however have to have a new valve body installed. Mine just hit 90K. bought it with 66K. Going back and forth to work I get 18-19 winter and 20-22 summer. Highway 28-31 on a trip last year from TN to WI and back without cruise control. The 9C1 has larger front brakes (the 12 inch Z28 system), steel front hubs instead of aluminum, bracing cradle around the engine and trans, stiffer struts, 140 amp alternator, HD Ac Delco battery, and possibly something else I forgot. The 3.8 GM V6 will last forever. The 9C1 also has a police specific stainless steel exhaust system with a resonator the size of a truck muffler. It is very quiet, but very restrictive. We bought the dynomax exhaust pipe and rear y pipe for a Grand Prix GT and added super turbo mufflers. Wow what a difference.
There is a company in Canada that makes turbo kits for the GM 3.8 FWD's for about $3500 complete. I'd like one along with some Buick Grand National emblems for the doors

I remember seeing a NON INTERCOOLED 3800 turbo setup on a stock motor putting out just under 500whp before it blew up. I think it was a pre-production kit and they were trying to sell things and make a point. Of course, maybe with an intercooler at the 400whp level, it would have lasted forever.
The lower gear ratio is a big thing for any gm auto. If you can tell the difference between 3rd and 4th gear at 65mph in a fwd gm auto, you must be one of the lucky ones that got that lower ratio.
I know the rental 3500 impala that hit 100mph in 2nd gear didnt have that option

The civic owner can't make up his (wife's) mind if he's going to sell the car to me or keep it for their daughter(14). If I had the cash, I would buy the Impala AND the Civic, and give my son whichever I don't want in August when he turns 16!....This has been a too stressful week and it's only Wednesday. Anybody want to buy a 1987 Chevy Silverado with a new transmission (400mi), new radiator, water pump, Gates hoses (radiator and heater)and belts, new AC components, new front brake pads, rotors, hoses (once around the block, .3 miles) and a Sony CD player.....Oh yeah, needs rod bearings, thats what started this whole mess on Sunday!

Hey TIG- I remember seeing your Impala in the magazine as internet hot rod of the month. Sweet car! I talked to my tranny guy of 20yrs and he told me of the valve body problem that was about the only issues they had with them. When I test drove it you could definitely tell on the highyway it had a lower gear ratio. I kept waiting for it to shift into fifth at about 75mph! Lots of fun in town though! I'll see what happens tomorrow in the car trade wars. I might just drop $1500 on a neon and crawl backinto my hole...

$1500 on a neon and crawl backinto my hole...
Why crawl? My old $300 sohc neon would blow the doors off a 3.8 impala in a stoplight race and also had 8x the handling potential. Potential being the key word.
BUT, if the only thing protecting you from epic failure on a daily basis is the extreme durability of your car (you're not a cop, right?), then the neon WILL fail you. They are fairly fragile in the suspension bits.

Do parts picked off of an abondoned neon on the side of the highway have to be claimed on a $2010 Challenge car?

Hey Vigo- You don't use that line a lot, do you? (you're not a cop, right?) Hahaha sorry, I gotta go to bed! Gotta get up at 4:30 am!
I've always wanted to play with a Neon, but they have worse resale than my 93 Duster did...

I looked at 4 impalas yesterday. The dealer I know had three of them, no p71s left. All three were junk. The other one I looked at ('03 with 87k) was really clean drove great. Really tight and quiet inside, no rattles squeaks, etc. It doesn't look like it ever had a seat divider bolted in, and no holes in the dash where stuff was bolted on either, and the rear doors and windows work from inside? Good service record too. This one is still in the running. But today a guy that works for me offered me his '05 civic DX for what the dealer was going to give him for trade in ($3000). He bought it new and has just under 90K. I think I just found my new daily driver. Maybe I can get him to throw in the service for the new timing belt!....I love looking for cars, but I hate looking when I NEED one quick!
don't try and get him to do ANYTHING, just buy it. flip it for twice what you paid, spend the proceeds on your now free $3000 DD

Mine had the V6. But I doubled my money in 3 weeks, so I like them

Nobody buys a Neon for the resale value.

Picked up the Impala yesterday, and gave it the "police pursuit" shakedown run around city lake road , fun..fun...fun! Pretty pleased overall, but I think I need to replace the radiator. Temp held good but dumped a little antifreeze. We'll see how it does this week in normal (50mi / day) commute. Wish me luck!

p71, the one i linked was a 3.0.
Eb4prez, Congrats on the purchase! Take some pics and add it to your 'garage' here on the site.
In reply to Eb4Prez:
When you go over the cooling system, look for brown sludge anywhere coolant can go, especially in the overflow bottle. I swapped my Olds over to "normal" coolant a while back and have had no problems, I did it as a preventable measure after seeing the Dexcool garbage these cars come with from the factory turn into a chocolate milkshake with time & contamination. I flushed using a lot of water and draining, running the car until hot and flushing again. Not a big deal once it's done.
Hope you have good luck with your new daily ride!
In reply to pres589:
Ya - whats up with the dex cool milkshake runoff?
I've had that problem also.
What's up with it? Dexcool is garbage, that's what. I don't care how great it is as installed in a new car, when I worked in Firestone stores now and then it was a common sight to see Dex sludge in the overflow bottle or worse, in the radiator. It seems like system pressure or contaminate location causes that stuff to get barfed into the overflow bottle, or it forms there more often. If it's on the underside of the radiator cap the best idea is to pull the rad hoses and start flushing with a garden hose. It's a riot.
Mixing it with "green" coolant causes it to sludge. It also seems to sludge with time. This stuff has been discussed on this forum in the past and it's always been a negative thing.

I changed the radiator this weekend and put on new Gates hoses as well. The old Dex-cool looked good (as good as orange anti-freeze can!). Car was really well maintained. Went back with the Prestone version of the Dex-cool. Only problems I had was leaking "quick connect" trans cooler lines into radiator. I think I have it now though. I will try to take and post some pics this weekend. I have to liscence it this week and may try for personalized plates...RAMROD.... anyone else like Supertroopers?
