I'll start off with the fact that its been a long while since I've been able to get behind the wheel and let the car go loose without having to worry about pedestrians or cops. Hence I haven't really done any fun driving since January 24th, 2016; the last autocross I recall attending. As pretty much my only hobby it can get disheartening to not have that 'release' every so often.
Lets throwback to quite awhile ago to my first autocross several years ago, I remember leaving the empty airfield thinking "That was Awesome!" Shortly after that I was attending every event that was physically possible and dumping every penny I earned into that sport, I didn't make much so I really didn't spend much.
On a good day I left content, bad days were less so but its hard to not have fun and look forward to the next one.. Until that next time was going to be an eventually.
Well today was that eventually, finally able to go back out and beat on a car. Driving up to the ring and finding the entrance on a busy Sunday with no previous knowledge or research wasn't exactly easy. I ended up pulling off into a random field in Nurburg and watched a couple YouTube videos to figure out how to enter the dang track. Turns out blockades are normal and a restaurant called Devil's Diner is a good place to plug into your GPS.
Entering the ring for the first time itself was a little surreal after watching all the YouTube videos and playing Project Cars for as long as I have. I was about to pinch myself but there was really no need with all but one broken car passing me at a ridiculous speeds. My daily pig was more getting in the way of everyone and I do mean everyone. Every few minutes, some times seconds, anything from an old golf to Porsche GTS 3 were blowing by me. It was a ridiculously cool experience even if I was more of a hazard than going fast.
When a reasonably quick car (probably a turbo focus) is ready ill be able to join the rest of the track (not just the right side) and get the full experience. It was an awesome experience and if you can swing it, i'd highly recommend going.
