Maybe. The announcers said there were multiple instances through the night where other teams had issues with their lights and drove around for hours and didn't get flagged to come to the pits to fix them. Yeah, if it's a rule, then it is hard to fault the ACO for enforcing it, but it should be enforced uniformly.

The Fords and Ferraris are leading 4.5hrs into the race, so apparently the sand-bagging was from them.
They gave the corvette an even larger restrictor than they had during that practice session and it still didn't have the pace.....cue up the "We blame the ACO for our mistake in aero package selection" comments....
In reply to T.J.:
Now that I do agree with. Let 2nd stand, they earned it
In Canada, thus is the first Internet access I've had all weekend so just checked the results. So sorry for Toyota to loose it with 10km to go. Obviously delighted Ford won. Just reading this page there is obviously some controversy to catch up on.

It's not confirmed, but I read (via a post on another forum) that the DQ'd Ferrari was restored to 2nd place.
Congrats to Ford on the debut win and I hope the floors in Toyota's transporters aren't too messy after that late failure.
And Mazda remains the only Japanese manufacturer to stand at the top....
I am happy Toyota lost.
Yay Ford won!!!

Stunning race. As HUGE a Porsche fan as I am, I can't help but feeling totally crushed for Toyota...the faces in their pit garage said it all in the last 5 minutes...

I hope that is the case, the Rizi team put up one heck of a race.

I don't get FIA, after the fact penalties on thing that weren't even rules, allowing flagged cars to have positions back after what the rules say should have been a DQ. Last minute weight and power penalties.
I suddenly feel better about the NFL.
Exciting race. I really wanted to see the trophy's being handed out. I really like Ferrari's. I have driven several but I also really enjoyed seeing ford come back and remind everyone not to poke the sleeping 500 lb gorilla in the corner.
What I hope this does is motivate all the other manufacturers to up there game. I hope it ends up with some great racing with Porsche Ford Chevrolet Ferrari Austin Martin and the others. Le Mans racing is by far my favorite racing. I hope that this fuels the fire to make it even better.
I was camping so didn't get to follow the race. Sounds like there was a lot going on. Yay Ford! I've been following the GTs since their debut so it's cool to see them succeed.
Fell asleep w/ two hours remaining, just catching up w/ the recap now. Wow, just wow.
Tough break for Toyota, suppose this will be the classic example of endurance racing for years to come. Congrats to Porsche and especially Ford, quite the feat for a Le Mans debut.
Penalties... wtf ever.
In reply to WOW Really Paul?:
If you can't tell the Fords could pull out and pass the Ferrari's on the straights at will...
Also, watching the in-cars, the Fords were not using all the track. The Corvettes and Porsches were crashing over the curbs all race long in qualifying pace just to finish as far behind as they did.
Seems GTE Pro might not be over just yet... A friend of mine with a lot of IMSA contacts just posted this-
So, apparently a bit of a stinker going on in LMGTE Pro. The Risi Ferrari was told to come to the pits to repair its leader lights (the three lights on the door that the ALMS used to use) because it was not displaying correctly, Risi chose to ignore it to hold onto second. Stop & Go penalty was given for ignoring the instruction, team still ignored it and finished the race. Who pointed out the leader lights on the Risi Ferrari? The 68 Ford team that was winning the class.
FIA finds that Risi did not have appropriate time to respond to the instruction, given a monetary fine and allowed to finish 2nd. Risi protests 68 Ford for speeding in a Slow Zone during the race, FIA agrees and gives Ford a 50 second penalty. FIA also finds the 68 Ford had a non functioning wheel sensor, given 20 second penalty, and moves the car to 2nd. Ford protests the FIA's findings in the leader light case again, Risi is given a 20 second penalty and demoted back to 2nd place.
Ferrari has a whole have now filed a protest of the Ford's performance during the race, stating they've gone well beyond the performance envelope for LMGTE cars.
Interesting reading the comments. The GTE Pro cars can not be within seven percent of a LMP2 lap time. Assuming that person knows how to add seconds, all the Fords and the Ferrari were within the fastest lap set by an LMP2 car.
evidently the fat lady hasn't sang yet

The LMP1's were running 3.21's, LMP2's were running 3.36 laps, the Fords mid-upper 3.51's, Ferrari ran some low 3.52's, & the leftover cars from last year were running very low 3.53's.
I see no issue with that speed delta.
3:36 is 216 seconds. 3:51 is 231 seconds. 216 times 1.07 is 231.12. I'd say they might have a problem.
I'm so pissed that Fox changed to the golf over Le Mans.
I don't have the option of streaming here and AFN was supposed to carry Le Mans, instead I had hours of commentary of... golf. I finally found something less interesting than baseball to listen to random statistics about. Sounds like it was a good race though.
Fox simpky sucks on almost all levels. Except for the Simpsons and Family Guy, they could fall off the face of the earth.

Corvette Racing protests Risi because by the end of the race, the accumulated grime had altered their paint color and it was not longer the Ferrari Red listed on their entry form. Porsche protests Corvette Racing because Doug Fehan called them "Porch" during an interview. The FIA agrees and awards spots 1,2, and 3 to Citroen who aren't even in the race. Because France!
Yeah, go Citroen. At least it'd be a nice change, unless you're watching WRC where they were the team forever.

Going by the actual fastest lap times, they're slightly over the 7%.
