The blue one is very nice. I always liked those cars, maybe I will get one someday. Of course I think they would make for a nice V8 swap, not that they are slow with the stock engine.

I would probably keep them stock, or close to it, so the tbi issues don't worry me much. Do these respond well to a manual boost controller like most other 80's turbo cars?

Predictable and enabling. Double down.

Yeah, I'm pretty much in love with the Fiji Blue one. I've been texting with the seller all day, and hopefully will be going to check it out Friday or Sunday. He added a bunch of pics to the ad (and also upped the price to $3500 obo ), and man is it pretty! I know it's probably worth every bit of $3500, but that's a little more than I want to spend. I was hoping to get him to $2500 when he had it priced at $3k obo, but that looks out of the question now. I'll keep everyone posted once I see it. Fingers crossed!

I had forgotten about these. I love the blue one as well. I have nothing else to add but,

1) A guy on my high school baseball team had a gray one that was 2-3yrs old. He only had it a short time b4 he totaled it. Ive wanted one since then...

2) There is a parts car that's been on CL for several months now. I had always assumed that they were complicated to keep running, which is why this one is still listed. Maybe I need to take a second look?

Oh please, please do buy it so I don't do something stupid. I must have looked at that ad 10 times yesterday. I e-mailed the guy just to ask a question or two. I saw he updated the ad with new pictures and if it's as clean as it looks in the pictures, oh baby! It's almost giving me motiviation to sell one of my Miatas quickly. I've had a thing for them for 25 years and never had one.

I know, I'm totally smitten by this thing. I'm trying to work out seeing it early tomorrow morning, I don't think I can wait till Sunday! Plus I don't want it to be gone. The seller seems pretty cool, and it's really close to me (next city over), so I want to see it ASAP. Trying not to get my hopes up, but unless there's something catastrophic that doesn't show up in the pics, I'm going to get it (assuming we can settle on a price). Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Been texting with the seller again today about seeing it early tomorrow morning, and I asked him about the price increase. He said he would honor the original asking price for the 16 people that contacted him! He said someone is supposed to drive from Tennessee tomorrow after noon with $3k to get it, but whoever gets there first gets it. I'm trying to get it for $2500, but I might just have to step it up and spend the $3000. Grrr...I don't want to miss out!

Seriously. Everytime this thread gets bumped I fully expect it to be OP with pics of his new score. (Sorry I bumped the thread and am not OP with pics of his new score.)

This. If he isn't yanking your chain about 16 responses, and if his car is legit he's not, then don't obey speed limits, stop signs or traffic lights on your way to his house. See if you can get a police escort. Also don't bother with the haggle on price...there are 15 guys behind you with cash in hand. Go. NOW.

Hell, worst case scenario is if you decide it's not what you dreamed of, you can flip it quick for a profit. Call me first.

NOOOOOO! Cooling and fuel lines FIRST. No exceptions! These motors are strangled by their pathetic cooling system, and the 2.6 has a reputation for eating head gaskets/cracking heads in the jet valve area when even mildly overheated. That's not even getting into the brittle fire-starting OE fuel lines. You are just plain asking for trouble if you don't take care of that first...the TBI can handle about 300HP but drivability suffers pretty badly.

Basically, build the engine as if you were going to run it in the Paris-Dakar...THEN add boost.

These guys will have all the parts you need to build it properly. http://www.racetep.com/dod_mit.html
