In yet another edition, I have a line on a 96 Grand Am Sedan for potentially cheap. It's a 4 cylinder sedan automatic with about 125k on the clock. Body looks pretty straight. This is for my brother who is a pizza delivery jockey for a pizza place. Anything to look out for?

It will likely run poorly, for longer than most cars will run well. Does it have a Quad4 engine? I think those are more problematic, maybe head gasket issues. Not sure.

An early 90s Grand Am was my worst car experience, ever. I MIL bought it, despite all that I could do to talk her out of it. Horrible in every way imaginable. The Iron Duke was rough, loud, and inefficient. Fit and finish was abysmal. Rust within 5 years.

She did drive it for 10 years, however. So there's that.

The 2.4 is more or less an anvil. It's like the Quad 4 but more stroke, less bore, and theb lock and head were redesigned for lots longer head bolts (maybe 2.5x longer!) which 100% eliminated the head gasket issues of the Quad 4. The main problems you will see are just general 18 year old car problems.

That was the only 4cyl available in 1996.
