I Agree - coolest lifted car yet - but not enough ground clearance. It's essentially a body lift.

That would be a lot of fun. Don't go too high though if rallyx is you goal - my lifted 86 Golf was a bit high for that. I did well in rougher terrain though. here are the 3 runs I did:

This was my first run ever: MKII VW Golf Diesel TDI Swap RallyX Run 1

And my third - I broke a CV joint mid-run. It had been clicking for a while (1,500 miles) before it failed. MKII VW Golf Diesel TDI Swap RallyX Run 3

You can see the excessive body roll in these videos - I imagine a lower CG would help. Not bad for a FWD with 10.5" of ground clearance though.

Where to buy longer springs for cars such as escorts? I bought cargo coils for the rear, and that added an inch or two.

Which car? The golf? Jetta? New Beetle? I don't have any good comparison pics - but I do have some pics that might give you a better idea.

No clue - All the lifts I have don have used springs from other VW's that weigh more. Maybe you can visit the junk yard with a measuring tape - or have some made.

what MPG does a lifted subaru impreza pr wrx get? mild 2 inch/ forester lift and some wheels and tires?

does it kill the mpg?

i cant help but think bg based escort's mx3's protege's would be good. throw in also first gen escorts, and lastly a first gen accent i think could be made to work quite well. i would prob do it with coil overs and just set it up so it had 1.5 inches of down travel available and call it good.

It kills off about 2 mpg, mainly due to the larger wheels & tires.

I was thinking about this for my Impreza 2.5RS, but the stock ride height is just so nice for everything.

If I'm going to get to some far off road places in Michigan I'll switch to Forester springs/shocks because it's the cheapest thing to do. An entire set from the junk yard runs about $100. Might as well give it a try.

Easy rx7 2nd gen lift is to use rx7 convertible springs on the coupe.

Bad thread, bad bad bad bad thread.

OK, ASSuming I get a toy in the next 12 months, my C30 is approaching 55K miles and will need new shocks in a year or so. My brain is now saying lift it an inch or so, nothing radical. Add a bullbar/light bar, sump guard, lights, roof rack and go for rugged AT tires on my 16" snow wheels instead of the ultralow profile 18" summer tires.

Thngs that make you go hhmmmm

Anyone good with Photoshop to help visualize the thread?

Here's one concept car I saw at an auto show a long time ago. Ford had cooked up this Taurus Santa Fe concept as a proposed competitor for the Subaru Legacy Outback. Powered by an AWD version of the SHO drivetrain.

I have a set of Forester XT suspension coming for my WRX.

I am going to give it a try. I need some extra ground clearance for nav rallies and volunteering at performance rallies.

I'll submit my e30. Though technically it's not lifted (sits tall stock since it's a 318i), but a few hundred pounds of weight reduction + taller rally tires and it sits pretty tall.

the shovel inset into the door makes me chuckle heartily.

This makes me think of "blade runner" for some reason. All those pipes all over the car perhaps.

Even a stock Outback has enough ground clearance to go up on city curbs and over parking blocks without scraping anything. It makes a great urban warrior vehicle. I take mine off roading all over California as well. It's not geared low enough to tackle the bouldery stuff at an appropriate speed. A slushbox (and the H6, which is only available with an auto) would do much better.

Minor thread derail: Can you point me toward some of these tires? They'd be great for a samurai or sidekick or such. Thanks! I kind of want to start a thread of the opposite...AWD/4WD stuff that's been dropped (thinking GM Syclone/Typhoon clones and such). I put BFG Radial All-Trail T/A 215/75R15 on my totally stock Samurai back around 1999\2000. Loved them. No rubbing, reasonable stance, no negative impact on handling (to the degree that one would explore the handling of a Samurai), hardly any wear, no noise problems, no traction problems. Even drove in dirt and mud a few times, but no serious off-roading.
