Looking into a 95 corolla tonight for DD duties, has 80,000 miles, autotragic, power everything (rear windows dont work), has clicking when AC is running (in engine bay) im thinking its probably the compressor clutch(s?) going out. Im hoping to pick it up cash so i can actually have a DD that I dont owe on.
Anything bad about these cars?
When does the timing belt/water pump need changed?

Timings usually good to about 100k, IIRC. The one thing I'd look for and isn't readily apparent with those cars is oil sludging. For some goofy reason, the 7afe in a lot of those was prone to that. So either you're gonna pop it before 90k, or it's going to run for about 3 billion miles. Rear quarters are prone to rot (But what toyota from the last 300 years wasn't). Mine threw an a/c belt about 75k, and fried the compressor, might want to check that. Otherwise, I didn't have to do squat to it.
I'm pretty sure that is still a non-interference engine. Should be a 4AFE, which is pretty indestructable. Could also be a 7AFE which has a longer stroke (1.8L). Timing belt should be done at 60'ish, but, being non-interference, you can run it till it snaps and put a new one on at the side of the road (if you have to). Best to just do it before hand, of course. Water pump will go way past 80K. Do it at the next timing belt change at 150K, as I'll assume you'll be doing one soon if you get it now.
Clicking when the AC is running. Humm. Is the AC cold? Could be low on freon and low pressuring switch dropping out when the compressor comes on, dropping the clutch out. Just a guess. Hard to diagnose "clicking" over teh intr4w3bz, y0.
Bad? Boring is bad or boring is good, depending on if you want the car for phun or to get you to work.

Like the quick replies! Thanks guys. Dr. Hess, the A/C seems to be blowing all right, not the best but its not blowing room temperature I'll check it with my gauge tonight to see where the pressure is. So were confirming that T-Belt should have been done at 60K?
I'm pretty sure the service interval is 60K on the timing belt on that thing, but I don't have a reference in front of me. That doesn't mean it was done at 60K. It could go 120K without snapping. If you don't see a sticker on the cover somewhere with a mileage on it or a receipt from the PO, I would say it wasn't done and just figger on doing it. It's not a big job.
clicking could also be injectors......

Mini Jr. has a '96 Prizm- same thing. It has been almost trouble free for the 3 years he has had it, and he does nothing but change the oil. I replaced the rear struts(they froze in the winter), and had to change a half shaft but it has 170k miles. His is a 5 speed and still delivers 36-38mpg highway. It's tough to beat for a D.D.
I'd really try to find a 5-speed car. 4A-FE + automatic = no fun at all.

Eh... I drove it tonight, and it is a snoozfest. But thats why it will be a DD. It'll keep me out of trouble and I have my civic as a "weekend warrior"... even though it too is awfully slow... Hardly a warrior anyway but thats beside the point...
There were a couple things that really bothered me about the car, namely the noise under the hood... Looking into it more soon. KBB says at "fair" condition it is worth 2610. The owner is thinking about accepting my offer of 1700 if I can remedy this sound or at least find out where its coming from. We'll see what happens.

misrepresented sound. DEFINITELY not injectors... way too loud for that... and random question not to get too far off topic. Are you a member of Club4ag?
